If you’re wanting a nice place that’s off the beaten path, this is the place. Still within easy drive of Acadia, but also opens up a day trip to Campobello Island, West Quoddy light, and Eastport for whale watching. Even more spectacular was the view of the night sky. As dark skies are becoming rarer and rarer, being able to see the Milky Way not just as a haze but with defined dust lanes and bright enough to walk around outside by, it’s an astronomers dream as well.An incredibly short walk to the nature preserve left us with up close views of bald eagles, porcupine, deer, and there was even a seal in the cove behind the house at high tide. If you’ve got a small boat, you can row out to Abbot Island for a picnic (which we did twice). An amazing place - with all the amenities you could ask for. Just plan ahead - it’s not a ten minute hop to the grocery store - and that’s one of the great things about it!
