Yurt in Forest with Puget Sound View - Dry Camping

This is not the 4 Seasons but it is unique and sure to make a memory. 4 Seasons isn’t noted for eagles, an amazing forest setting, and a Puget Sound view, but this place sure is.

It's a one-bedroom yurt in a nice wooded area with a water view in the distance. Less than 2 miles away from Vashon town. Perfect for a nice walk, bike ride, or a morning run. The yurt is 200 square feet inside with a wooden floor, a fold-out very nice futon bed, two nice sitting chairs, and a small coffee table and chairs. There is a lovely propane stove for looks only. It's currently not working. There is a water pump just outside where you can get water if needed...but no sink, shower, etc. There is an outhouse. Think of this as dry camping at its best.

If you are a glam camper and need a place to flop and reset while exploring and having fun on Vashon, this is for you!

Our family lives on the lower area of our property. About 300 feet from the Yurt. We also rent an Airstream directly across from the Yurt. It might/might not be rented when you are here.

Space
You will have access to only the Yurt. The lower property is a private residence, so off limits to visitors. Any questions or concerns should be handled by text and calls with the host Bruce.

Guest access
This rental is for the yurt, and you will need to park outside of the property on the public road...we suggest across the road from the mailboxes. All amenities down below are part of our own home and not part of this rental.

Guest interaction
I prefer calls and texting to make sure your needs are being met. I’ll come to you in a second if I’m at the main home in the lower part of the property (about 300 feet away). I’m a Superhost and have held that status for years.

Neighborhood overview
1. You will be on a wooded property facing SeaTac from across the Puget Sound.
2. Uptown Vashon and all its great amenities is just 1.5 miles away.
3. KVI Beach, one of the best walking areas with a sandy beach, is ~ 1 mile away.

Getting around
We ask that you park your vehicle on the street outside the property, ideally directly across from the mailboxes.

Other things to note
- Pets are not welcome, unfortunately. We have a small dog on the lower property and want to ensure no harmful incidents.

- Bruce is very glad to talk about Vashon Island features, ideas for outings, and great places to eat. He’s walked and paddled almost every inch of the island.

- Smoking, non-paying Guests and Parties - strictly prohibited in and outside the Yurt. This truly is a chill zone, and we don’t want a fire!

- No hunting if you happen to be tempted! (I've been asked.)

- Sleeping:
+ As this is "glamping," we are providing eye shades and earplugs if that might improve your sleeping experience.

- For Vashon walks (our favorites):
+ KVI beach is fantastic - about 1 mile away.
+ Fisher Pond is also a lovely wooded forest walk. About 2.5 miles away.
+ Point Robinson is another winner...an old coast guard station and lighthouse are neat features.

- For Vashon restaurants:
+ Hardware store is a great, consistent restaurant with beautiful art adorning the walls. American food.
+ May's Kitchen is a Thai restaurant that's just as good as any you will find. Very popular place. Call to make a reservation.
+ Snap Dragon is a local favorite for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - it has vegan options.
+ Zamorana's is the best Mexican food by far. The owner was actually featured with Martha Stewart on the wall. Reasonably priced fresh food.
+ Thriftway has a very good salad, burrito, and hot food bars if you want to take your food to go.
+ Pure plant Kitchen and Organic Juicery - serves raw, organic, and glutton-free cuisine for the ultra-health-conscious.
+ Gravy is another winning dinner restaurant run by a noted chef. It can be popular...and not too many tables.
+ Cafe Luna is great for coffee, snacks, and WiFi.
+ Minglement is the old "Stewart Brothers Coffee" roasterie that became SBC (Seattle's Best Coffee). It's a quaint little place for many tea selections and locally roasted coffee. It also has organic grocery items, herbs, and supplements. They also have amazing ice cream! The building itself is a historical treasure. Sitting outside on the porch couldn't be a better way to pass the time and people-watch like in the good old days.

- For ice cream:
+ ZuZu's at Minglements is probably our favorite
+ Glass Bottle Creamery is right in the middle of town - the same side of the street as the Vashon Theatre
+ Thriftway has very good ice cream and drinks to go

- For water sports:
+ Jensen Point has a kayak/sup board rental shop that's part of the boathouse. Nice park area for lounging/eating at a picnic table.
During your stay at this cabin, you'll be close to Vashon Maury Island Heritage Museum. The cabin includes amenities such as free WiFi and a patio.
  • The cabin offers a patio, a TV and a coffee maker
  • Free Wi-Fi (speed: 250+ Mbps (good for 3–5 people or up to 10 devices))
  • Just a 4-minute drive from Vashon Maury Island Heritage Museum and a few minutes from Vashon Center for the Arts

Quiet spot in the woods

Enjoyed the setting, which feels remote but is just a short drive from the main business center of Vashon. Host was quick to respond when we had a question. There is a 3-5 minute walk from the road where you park, so pack light. The walk is mostly on pavement, but to enter yurt you’ll take a few steps on the forest floor and up about the height of one stair to a wood platform. Great little spot and would be a great place to stay when traveling by bicycle, too!Bed is a full size mattress on a futon frame. Not super supportive but we slept great nonetheless (we are a couple in our 40s of average build, generally healthy but with the fitness level of office workers who don’t work out much). We enjoyed a number of activities on the island, including a kayak tour from Jensen Point, cider tasting at Dragonshead Cider, and browsing the shops along the highway. If you go to Snapdragon Cafe and Bakery, order about half the amount of food you think you want; portions are enormous. You can always go back for more, but ending up with leftovers on vacation is not ideal.

Vashon yurt

Great location on the island and on the end of a quiet road with friendly neighbors. It was a lovely space to stage from so we could explore the awesome community skatepark, the Troll, and a bit of town. Highly recommend!
Hammock was a great addition to morning coffee!

Perfect forest getaway on the Sound

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the yurt on Vashon Island! It was an exceptional stay in a beautiful setting. It had always been a dream of mine to stay in a yurt, and I could not have dreamed of a better time and place to do so! Our host, Bruce, was kind, accommodating, communicative, and offered his thoughtful recommendations of how to best enjoy the island. His care and attention to detail show just how much he knows and loves Vashon! The stay itself felt luxurious, even though we were glamping, and we had more than enough for a comfortable stay. I would definitely do this experience again and have encouraged many others to do the same!

Peaceful retreat minutes from heart of Vashon

This was a wonderful find! The yurt was lovely - nestled in the trees with a beautiful view of the Sound. It was a couple minute drive to the main shopping / restaurant area of Vashon but was completely private. The bed and seating was quite comfortable and heating system in the yurt was great, allowing me to easily set the temperature to my comfort level. Restroom was easily accessible and clean. Bruce had a hammock set up on the front porch of the yurt which was a fantastic spot to enjoy the view. He was a kind and communicative host - I will definitely be back.

Cute Yurt in the Woods

A lovely location, very clean. Heater and fan worked great. I thought it would be quieter, I did not realize it was in the fight path of the airport. Not the fault of the owner. I highly recommend!

Absolute treat!

We rented the yurt and airstream for three adults and four kids age 1-4. It was a perfect option to feel like camping but with less gear and a few creature comforts. Plenty of lights/plugs and space for us, very private and secure (since we had both yurt and airstream) and easy in and out. So close to town, too! Bruce was very helpful as well in planning our trip. Can’t wait to go back!

Shockingly nice

I must say that this little yurt was shockingly more enjoyable than I had thought it would be. The adjacent trailer with a bathroom is not far at all and suitable. The view of the Seattle bay is incredible and directly in front of the yurt! This was not only affordable but very well appointed! The list of pre-purchased movies off of iTunes was a very nice perk! And Netflix was already signed in and ready. I would totally do it again! Thank you Bruce.

This is the glamming place to stay on Vashon

We only stayed one night and it was awesome. Very clean and the amenities were a treat. TV with cable and WiFi in a yurt! Crazy.

Wouldn’t Reccomend

I know this is “glamping” but this was not ideal. We stayed in February, it was very cold. Our host did not bother to turn on the heat before we arrived, and it took about three- four hours to get the room to an acceptable temp. He was very dismissive of my concern, even though we arrived after check in and I had called ahead to let him know we were on the way. Photos are misleading- I thought we would have access to the very nearby Sound, but no. You’re basically camping in the host’s driveway.

Sweet Quiet Spot Minutes From Everything

What a gorgeous view of the sound and the city! The bed is soft, the yurt and trailer were clean, and Bruce was an awesome host! We were welcomed in style and he made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable "glamping" experience. Definitely recommend The Coffee Roasterie for early morning coffee and delicious fritatta with the locals. Snapdragon rustic pizza is a must. And, for an amazing special treat, be sure to check out May's Thai Restaurant. It is one of the best in the country, tucked nicely away on this peaceful refuge just a 20 minute ferry ride from Seattle. Everyone should have a yurt experience at least once in their lives. :)

Beautiful surroundings! Quiet, comfortable stay.

We loved it! You do need a car, but there is a public access beach nearby, as well as the town of Vashon. You can easily park and ferry to Seattle. It was simple, clean, and comfortable for us and 2 children.

Cool Place to Stay

We enjoyed our time at this location, the beds were comfortable, it was very quiet and we enjoyed sitting on the deck to visit. The property was not ready at 4:00 when we arrived about 4:15, with a check in that late, I felt it should have been ready. The kitchen is ill equipped to cook much, if you are having sandwiches, or things that don't need to be cooked in more than one pan, it will do the trick. The beach is a drive away, I don't believe you could walk it; I know there was not beach access specifically from the property, but didn't know there was no access except for a drive away. Overall, we did have a nice time, we always do, but I was a little disappointed with what we got versus what we expected.
