Our stay at the James Bay Inn was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm, genuine hospitality — the staff here truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for. The customer service was exceptional across the board. The inn itself is absolutely charming — full of character, history, and thoughtful details. The textures, colors, and classic decor give it a unique personality that you just don’t find in chain hotels. It’s cozy, clean, and full of warmth, both in ambiance and attitude. Our room was adorable and comfortable, with just the right blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. You can feel the history in the walls, yet everything is so well-maintained and fresh. We would 100% stay here again and will absolutely recommend it to friends and family visiting Victoria. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. A true gem!

What a wonderfully charming inn! Our room was perfect from the comfy bed to the windows overlooking the street. A 2 minute walk from Beacon Hill Park,15 mins from Fisherman’s Wharf and not much longer to Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown. We didn’t need a car to get around at all. Breakfast was wonderful. My husband can’t say enough about the building and super friendly and helpful staff, especially Hedy and Roy/Ron (sorry we couldn’t remember which it was) We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Possibly difficult for those who might find stairs hard to navigate. Dining was good, two choices, the cafe and the Pub. Bed was lovely! Overall, a very enjoyable stay, would highly recommend!

The location was really good for walking to the main sights. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Property was clean but in need of updating with the decor, especially the carpeting. There was a fridge on the room but a kettle/coffee maker would have been more useful to us.

The property is historic and the staff were very helpful in many ways. I didn't realize that this hotel did not have an elevator and as my husband is handicapped it took us a while to walk up into the entrance and then to the 3rd floor. The staff carried our bags. we were there for 3 nights so on the 2nd day they were able to move us to the 2nd flloor which helped a lot.The rooms were clean and spacious with nice toilet soaps etc. There is a great restaurant downstairs which we used for a hearty breakfast. Great prices compared to the touristy areas. Good parking. The hotel is very close to the waterfront and the hop on and off bus, which we used. if this hotel had an elevator we would definitely stay again. We would recommend.

Booked this hotel as was let down by Airbnb! However, it was a great change for us, close and within walking distance to Victoria. Ease of parking in order to do Whale Watching trip. Totally recommend, very quaint and quirky old building.
