Ah, could be a better experience

The hotel ran an hour late to let us check in. That was a bit annoying. The hotel is charming but the rooms are extremely small. The beds are extremely comfortable. The only window view we had was of the small courtyard. It felt a bit claustrophobic. The tv in the room was hanging by a thread and ultimately required fixing by the hotel staff and my husband. It still did not work after all was said and done. The hotel's included breakfast was delicious. No complaints there. We treated ourselves to a couples massage and the masseuses were wonderful, however the spa room was right newr an open window from the main road in which you heard the motorcycles and street traffic throughout the massage. Definitely not as relaxing as one may like. The hotel staff tries to be accommodating but everything seems to be more complex then it needs to be. Such as requesting bottles of water...they need to run it by this person to get it from this person. Simple things! And finally, there is an elderly man who lives near by but has adopted this hotel as his own hang out. He likes to play music and his phone pretty loud in the mornings in the middle of the courtyard with no regard for the paying guests. The hotel shoudl really manage that situation better.

The rooftop view is beautiful and incredible. The hotel has cute decor perfect for picture opportunities. The staff members are all helpful and friendly. If you want to go out for the night, restaurants and bars are nearby and in walking distance.

The room was basic but fine. On an internal courtyard near to stair so the noise of other guests talking-when coming in during the evening/night was considerable. The rooftop restaurant is beautiful, with a clear view of all the volcanoes today. The “incluido” breakfast was excellent. Staff was helpful with arranging my shuttle to the lake. I will come back.

This is an excellent hotel. Beautiful, confortable and in an awesome location close to stores, restaurants and all kinds of amenities. The hotel restaurant is located in the rooftop and has an awesome view. The menu is extensive and the food is excellent. The staff was very courteous and helpful.

Great central property. Walkable to so much central. Greated with cold hibiscus tea. Staff very friendly. Nice rooftop patio. Breakfast and drinks on patio so nice with view of volcanos. Our room had no windows looking out so that was different. Walls also very thin so could hear everything in the room next door. But this is typical in Antigua. Beds comfy. Great plush towels.

Nice small hotel about two blocks from the town square. Convenient to restaurants and shopping. Being in the centro area it is a bit noisy, especially the rooms that face the inner courtyard. Our friend had a room facing outward, and it didn’t have a window.

My cousin and I spent just one night at El Carmen, and we wished we could have stayed longer. The beds were very comfortable, bathroom was newly renovated, and the rooftop restaurant was lovely. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

The location is fantastic—you can easily walk anywhere in the city. The rooftop restaurant offers stunning views while dining, and the complimentary breakfast, including vegetarian options, is a great bonus. Lily at the front desk was incredibly friendly and helped me book the Pacaya Volcano tour and a shuttle to Panajachel. Overall, a wonderful stay, and I would definitely return!

Overpriced noisy boxy room with great breakfast.

The “deluxe king room” was quite plain, nothing like website photos. Only two small windows high up with no view. BIG problem was that one window was broken open several inches and let in way too much street noise: loud motorcycles roaring by for hours on end. Jamming in air plugs helped, but still intolerable. Bed was hard, so I woke up with sore hips and sore ears from ear plugs. Finally, hot water took minutes to heat up, and then might turn cold depending on whoever else was using water in supply line. On a high note, breakfast was excellent, a plethora of tasty choices. We also had pizza and fettuccine dinners, excellent!
