If you want to stay just outside Athens, very close to excellent beaches and to the ancient site of Sounio, then this is an ideal hotel. You are also only a short walk from the center of town which has excellent restaurants, including the very lively Zachos (a local favorite, specializing in souvlaki--very informal). We would return to this hotel, especially at the price we were able to book it at.
Plaza Vouliagmeni is a very pleasant hotel in the upscale out of town neighborhood of Vouliagmeni. The hotel is relatively expensive for its quality in Greece but definitely a bargain for the area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hot and cold breakfast buffet on the outdoor terrace was extensive and of very high quality. Rooms were comfortable, clean and relatively spacious for Europe. Don't let the dingy corridors put you off! But those not familiar with Athens should understand that, while Vouliagmeni is ideally situated for the beach it is around 40 mins to 1hr 15 mins from the centre of town by taxi or bus/tram. It's also about 40mins from the airport.
This congenial English speaking staff is most welcome to the traveler arriving from a distance. Breakfast is familiar and elegant -- very delicious. Rooms are the best part of any hotel stay and my sleep was more than satisfactory. Large comfortalbe bed with very nice linens and comforter. Spacious room with balcony and view of the ocean just a few yards away from the hotel. Several excellent restaraunts and beaches surround this verdant property overlooking a picturesque coastline. Buses run right to the door though getting directions can be a challenge in Athens. A five star hotel sits among this same beach community and it is a very nice district (Vouliagmeni) of the metropolitan area of Athens. Highly recommended for value and comfort. GPS is the best solution to avoid confusion in finding this location and to make it easier than dealing with locals for directions. Turkish bath towels and robes were the icing on the comfort cake.
The hotel is about 100m from the beach, walking distance to the town centre, quite location, no noise from the streets. Rooma are of good size, huge bed, barthroom smallish but practical, all is very clean. AC worked well. TV set and choice of channels not great but who cares. Breakfast was fine, and the personnel was polite and helpful. The only minor issue is that the only lift broke down and my room was on 6th floor. Overall, it is a great hotel and will stay there again on my next trip to the Athens area.
As it was an overnight stay en route, were very satisfied. The Italian restaurant that was attached to the hotel was delightful. Close proximity to the waterfront was a ,plus.
Hotel is located within walking distance to beaches. The closest is the small free public beach. A better choice is the private beach located towards center of town at a cost of an all day pass of 4 euro per person. This includes unbrellas and lawn chairs.
There are many good restaurants located in center of town across the beach area.
We took a walk on the trail along the sea shore to the next town. Wear gym shoes and take water along.
The staff was top notch especially Dimitri at the front Desk and Sotiris in the restaraunt. Two brothers who know hospitality. Honorable mention to Anastasia and Zachary. When you are greeted warmly by people who make you feel glad to see you, it goes along ways towards a nice stay in a foreign land. The rooms at the front of the hotel have water views where as the ones further back become blocked. Fun buffet breakfast with made to order cappuchinnos. Great beach area on the edge of athens sprawl.
Plaza's location is just great because it's right in the midst of a pine forest and right on a very nice beach, but still only a 25 mins ride from the centre of Athens. Breakfast was much better than the average for the comparable price and class in Greece.

Plaza Vouliagmeni Strand Hotel
30 - 40 euro taxi ride from airport - don't be fooled by "limosine" drivers trying to charge you 90 - take the official taxi. We stayed 1 night waiting for flight connection.
Friendly and professional, provided beach towels, baby cot, local advice and ordered taxi to airport.
The hotel itself is a bit tired once you leave the ground and 1st floor (where the restaurant and bar are located). Room was fine, hot water, air conditioning, tv - bathroom had a slight smell (plumbing?) which went once shower used.
Breakfast (included) was excellent - full buffet with everything you could want from bacon, fresh fruit, pastries, museli, cake etc etc.
Restaurant is pricey but has great outdoor terrace and nice ambient music.
Close to the sea, and the only free beach is a 10 minute walk.
We took a leap of faith and booked our trip to Athens for the Athens Marathon. We also planned our honeymoon around the event. I booked our week in Athens at the Plaza Vouliagmeni Strand Hotel based on a few other reviews I read here. WOW! What a GREAT decision! If you're looked for a huge room with all the conveniences of ultra modern times, you'll be disappointed with the Plaza Vouliagmeni Strand. But, if you're looking for a cute, small, intimate setting, a staff that is beyond wonderful, situated in a gorgeous, affluent beach area of Greece, then this hotel is perfect! The staff made our stay in Greece a wonderful memory. Antony was the kindest, most servant-hearted man I've ever met. He was extremely knowledgeable of the surroundings as was every person on staff there.
If I ever go to Greece again, I would not hesitate to stay here again. It was such a great decision to stay at this hotel and take the bus into Athens (or anywhere else). Our time was totally blessed at this hotel...
Everywhere we went in Greece, people told us Vouliagmeni was where the rich people stayed--much like a resort. The price from the U.S. was average--not expensive at all--so it was a wonderful surprise that the hotel stay was so pleasant. The food was great--the biggest breakfast buffet I have ever seen that was free with the room--and the staff became our friends over the week, treating us so special. I don't care how much of a hassle it was to get back from Athens every evening (though we eventually learned the bus and metro systems), it was well worth it to get back to the hotel, enjoy a glass of wine at the bar and being served with a plate of cheese and spreads complimentary, and recounting our day with the staff. It was made the trip to Greece that much more memorable! I will definitely stay there any time I go to Greece.
This has been the best hotel of the four weeks I've spent in Greece. Its two restaurants were first class, and the buffet-type breakfast (included) to die for. First rate indeed. Cheers!

Outstanding hotel staff made my stay excellent!
Great staff made my day memorable. The breakfast buffet is really good and open till late (10.30am).
Perfect location if you have a wedding at the Astor Palace and you want to stay nearby.
Great proximity to Glyfada and its night scene.
CON: far away from the city center (45min drive) if you are planning to visit the Acropolis and museum, but taxis are cheap

I chose the hotel because it was near enough to my conference location. The room was clean, the personnel was friendly and polite and the breakfast was just amazing.
Plaza Vouliagmeni Strand Hotel located far from the city central of Athens and it took long to get into the city by car. However, the surroundings were nice enough to spend a few days.
I'd surely recommend the hotel to other people who value rest and good breakfast to keep hunger away for hours :)
