Drain Smell
On walking in room 7 there was a terrible smell even though the window was fully open. I walked back to reception and explained the smell was bad in the room and asked for another room. Was given a key for room 5. Room didn't have the awful smell of the other room and although was basic and a bit tired looking we settled into room. After an hour we went for an evening meal in the restaurant which was ok. We then returned to the room only to open the door and be hit with the same awful smell that had been in the other room! Was coming from the bathroom so we shut the toilet lid, blocked up the sink hole and put a towel over the shower drain. Couldn't get rid of the smell but as it was quite late we just stayed in the room hoping the smell would go, window was fully open. The smell didn't go, it was smelly all night but did start to go when we woke around 6am. Didnt sleep well mainly due to smell and having to have window open quite wide. Must of been a problem with the drains. We ended up leaving hotel by 6.30am and did'nt bother with breakfast as we were fed up. With hindsight we should of requested a refund and gone elsewhere. Lady on reception was friendly enough but smell really spoilt our stay.

Surprisingly good motel on the A1
Room was comfortable and looked out the back to a beautiful view towards the coast. Excellent evening meal and a reasonable price. Very efficient staff. Breakfast good and a varied choice.
Hotel is fine for the price, staff are good and it is clean and well ran, the only thing is the noise from other rooms, all the doors seem to bang shut at all hours and people having conversations in the corridors at 4am didn’t help
Surprisingly quiet despite being off the A1 the front of the property is a corridor to the rooms which offers sound protection from the A1 .
The rooms overlooked a nice field with a view of the sea.
The staff were friendly and a decent restaurant on site .
Don,t be put off by the inclusion of services in the address. It's a lovely site with everything you need. Its location is great for exploring nearby sites such as Babburgh and Holy Island. Recommended.
We had a great stay at purdys lodge what a great location for everything to. The staff was very friendly and great service and food. Will definitely be using again. Also took our dogs at no extra charge.
Great hotel and friendly staff. Fantastic central location for visiting Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, seahouses and Alnwick. Food was great, especially the breakfasts. Comfortable room overlooking farmland with Bamburgh castle in the distance. We stayed for 3 nights and will definitely come back at some point.
Stayed here for 1 night with my sister and son. The receptionist was unfriendly. The bedroom was very outdated with cheap 1960's furniture. The bed rolled, the sink taps wouldn't close properly and the toilet seat was cheap, flimsy and looked like it was on it's last legs.
Bathroom. The bathroom was clean BUT the shower was terrible. I washed my hair which took ages because the showerhead only let out a trickle. I was literally crying as i stood underneath that trickle because the shampoo took ages to wash out. I have shoulder length hair just for reference. I don't know who or what clientele found this hotel excellent but I certainly found it below a 1*. I think the previous guest heads need checking.
Breakfast. The server was very nice and pleasant but the breakfast was all deep fried- the veggie sausage was from the 50's when they didn't even have vegan food. It were a broccoli and carrot sausage. This hotel is a truckers stop only. Expect the bare minimum. Left as soon as daylight hit.
We stayed here last year and booked again for this year, and it didnt disappoint. Its in a great location off the A1, perfect for Northumberland or as a stop off for Scotland. The staff are genuine, friendly and so helpful. The breakfast is just fantastic, all cooked to order; tasty and well presented.
