Tired small room, could've been better cleaned

Family room was really small with barely any space to negotiate around the two beds. To make some room in the morning we put away the sofa bed, and it wasn't so clean underneath. Big stain on the carpet, a lost earring from a former guest, and what even looked like a packet of tissues under the main bed which I didn't investigate. Having said that, the main reception, bar and breakfast area were good, and the breakfast was great with a lot of choices

Got up from my table mid breakfast together a cup of tea. When I got back to my table everything had been taken away! I understand the need for cleaning up after customers have left the restaurant, but at least give them a few minutes in case they are returning, especially as it was clear that I had not finished.

Room/bed was comfortable and clean except few stains on carpet looks like been there awhile only real downside was too warm and air con wasnt working so reception provided us with a fan to use which was good x great breakfast !

Just had a great stay at Holiday Inn Express, twin room for my sister and I, lovely comfy beds, spotlessly clean, great roomy shower, nice touch with the Dove Shampoo and Body Wash and service was super. Asked at reception if we wanted room on higher or lower floor which I thought was really nice, nice comfortable bar/reception area to come back to after great day of walking around Birmingham - lovely city. All staff greeted us with lovely smiles, would definitely stay here again.

The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was varied. The only thing that let it down was when we arrived and got through check in we got in the lift the door closed we pressed the level we needed and the lift did not move we were stuck in a closed lift we pressed the alarm no one came we could just see the reception thru a small gap in the door we pressed the alarm again still no one came or spoke to us. In panick we forced the door open which took some doing and went straight to reception to notify them about the faulty lift they almost laughed and said didnt you scan your card on the black box i explained i hadnt stayed with them before she just said well you need to scan your card on the box inside the lift then press the floor number. I felt like we were stupid rather than someone who hadnt been given the right information. I would appreciate it if the reception staff were to ask anyone who checks in if they had been before and if not explain the system with the lift. This was a huge issue for us as i was bringing my partner who is physically impaired and mentally impaired the whole lift issue caused her to be scared and she was reluctant to get in another lift after this problem.
