We spent a week at Straloch in Stalker's Lodge with our three young children and I could not recommend it more highly for families or anyone! The website is beautiful but it does not âoversellâ the Straloch Estate. From the Scottish postcard quality of the road on which it is located, to the walled garden and millennial garden, the Estate had even more beauty to it than I was expecting. Lucy and her family and team love the Estate and it shows - you will be staying at a much beloved and carefully tended family estate. The natural beauty is perfect and Straloch has ensured that you have every possible way to easily access it with your family. Children are provided with baskets for nature walks, a row boat and kayaks are provided to get out on the water, and we loved cooking marshmallows on the island! Lucy went out of her way to spend time with our family and to take our children on a âpond dippingâ adventure to learn about little fish. They loved it and Lucy was sweet and knowledgeable, a consummate host. We thought the estate was perfectly located for day trips that provided a great âScottishâ experience as well. We especially loved Blair Castle and Scone Palace. I would not miss either!
If you're looking for a secluded spot on the edge of the Cairngorms, we would highly recommend this property at Straloch. Be prepared for the 9-mile (20 min) drive from Pitlochry, along a good single-track road and sometimes with sheep to navigate around... but it's worth it for the getaway - the setting is perfect. Everything is catered for, there's plenty to explore on foot around the property (including a boat and kayak's for the lake - life vests provided too). The house itself is large, comfortable, and cozy. We're looking forward to heading back there asap.
If you want a million dollar view of the Scottish Highlands, very quite, just a very soft bleating of sheep, the sounds of birds and nature, then this is for you. Far away from a noisy city. The house is on a very private road. Absolutely no traffic. I have stayed in private homes all over the world, including Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Hawaii and many others, and this is absolutely one of the top 3. Very highly recommend!!! 5 stars!! Would give 6 stars if I could.
This property is nothing short of amazing! The location although a 20 min outside of town, is very remote. Being so remote gives you all the benefits nature has to offer...peacefulness, beauty, relaxation. You name it. All that while still being in a great spot for a drive to some wonderful site seeing. The property is out of this world. There is a cottage next door, even though it was empty during our stay if someone were staying next door I can see how you would still have all the privacy in the world. The home was a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone.
We felt so special staying in this house on a large estate. We took full advantage of the estate by walking around the small lake on a mostly mowed path. We met the owners (delightful) and the owner's mother(a gem of a lady) who both have beautiful homes on the estate. They were super welcoming people. We even got a look in their walled garden- nicely done!
The house was super comfortable with great furniture and spectacular views. All three bedrooms are upstairs. One is an ensuite, the other two share a family bath with a shower and separate tub. There's a third bathroom downstairs.
The kitchen was well equipped, which is great, as we prepared all our dinners there. (The nearest town is a bit of a drive down very winding roads so it was better to eat at the house)
All high praises for this house. Glad my group of 6 women loved the house and the views. You knew you were in Scotland when you woke up.
My friends and I had a fantastic long weekend in this fabulous house. It has views to impress and the house itself is so comfortable it made us want to stay longer. It is equipped with everything you need . I would high recommend a stay here.
A 5* property and experience. Couldn't fault it in any way.
Stalker's Lodge is situated in a quite stunning location and the over riding feeling is one of space, both inside and outside the property. If you are looking to get away from it all whilst still being within a few miles of civilisation then this is the place for you. The property is fabulously well appointed and the was nothing you could possibly want for in the kitchen. Lucy the property manager was very attentive but never overbearing, whilst Penny the housekeeper was amazing - her ready meals were to die for and allowed us to fully 'kick back'. I have no doubt we will return for another stay at Stalker's Lodge.
Fantastic property in a beautiful location with great management - the owners even prepped us (candles, gas stoves etc that in the end we did not need) to manage the storms that were anticipated. We had some snow, but again, the owners quickly cleared it up and we could sled down the hill outside. The dog was in dog heaven with plenty of walks from the front door. A very enjoyable stay and highly recommended - thank you.
Lovely cottage with amazing views and lots of wildlife to see including red squirrels and deer. The family all enjoyed the games room, kayaking and walks around the estate. We also recommend the excellent home cooked food made by Penny, it was all delicious.
Spent the week at Stalkers Lodge, very relaxing. Lovely property, spotlessly clean, well equipped and beautifully presented. Gorgeous Eames chair to enjoy the view from, we were able to watch the birds from there too on the feeders and saw a red squirrel one morning.
The Millennium wood was ideal for our dog Dara, itâs completely enclosed.
Lovely hosts, we were made to feel very welcome and Lucy has thought of everything including dropping off an extra sledge when it snowed enough to make it worth finding a decent hill!
Canât recommend this special place highly enough.
We have stayed as a family in several properties over the last few years and Stalkers Lodge is by far the best of them all. Location, facilities, cleanliness, indeed everything are all 10 out of 10. Lucy the property owner has thought of everything. I could not be more happy to highly recommend this property.
Stalkers Cottage is a beautiful house for a family holiday. It suits our group (2 families) really well. The young boys love Straloch and have had many adventures on the two holidays we have enjoyed. Playing tennis, adventures in the dens in the woods, cycling trips to the nearby village, kayak fun, fires on the island, swimming in the loch! and playing in the garden. We were lucky with our first holiday in terms of weather and our walking trip to the pool nearby was fantastic with everyone going for a dip to cool down. On our last holiday we had the most fantastic picnic set up by the river at the fishing hut, such a nice day. The house has everything you need for cooking great meals and the beds are really comfy. Lucy was a brilliant host both times and we will be better organised for next year to ensure we manage to book a summer slot!!
We stayed as 5 adults and 2 spaniels for 4 nights in November. Lucy organised an early check in for us, which meant we could get there in the daylight and do some exploring!
Stalkers Lodge is modern, very clean, spacious and warm. The boot room was a bonus due to the amount of outdoors stuff we had, plus the 2 dogs! The kitchen had everything we required. Both sitting rooms had comfy sofas and of course the wood burner in one, with a very large basket of logs included in your stay. You could also buy a wheelbarrow full of logs from the estate for a small reasonable charge. The beds were large and comfy and the showers were fantastic.
We didnât have time to use the games room, but it looked like a great space for kids, with plenty to do. The garden is completely enclosed (with chicken wire on the fences if you have dogs prone to escaping!!).
You can walk about the estate fairly freely, as long as none of the livestock are disturbed. Thereâs a short walk down and around the loch where dogs can be off the lead & another short walk up the way into the millennium wood. Thereâs also longer walks, including a ridge walk behind the lodge - there are directions for all of these within the lodge.
Lucy also arranged a late check out for us, which meant we werenât rushing about like mad on the day we left - and didnât want to leave!
One thing we didnât know about was that the kayaks are not available after October 31st as they are put away for the winter (I couldnât see this written anywhere on the website). We will all happily kayak in winter and this was a little disappointing as we didnât find this out until after we received the check in instructions.
A fantastic relaxing break away, and would thoroughly recommend a holiday at Straloch Estate.
The overall standard of the accommodation and the Estate itself is superb with great walks on your doorstep, and in the immediate area also.
The Millenium wood appeared as if it was purpose built for our dogs, and is perfect for a secure dog walk and there is a surprise round every corner but I won't give too much away so as not to spoil it.
Lucy greeted us and went to the trouble of recommending walks in the area, and couldn't have been more helpful in settling us in for our stay. I have to say that we have stayed in some nice accommodation, and on estates before but Stalkers Lodge and Straloch Estate are in a class of their own. It was a real privilege to stay there.
We will definitely be back!
The lodge has all comforts and style of best designed home. The scenery is breath taking. The ability to walk out the door to a dozen hikes, the loch, and the river gives you freedom to do as much or as little whenever. The bikes and the boats are added treats. We saw stags, hare, pheasants, Red squirrels, and so many sheep. The walled garden takes you back to another time. Lucyâs kindness and attention made this magical place warm and welcoming. We only wish we had more time. The picture and descriptions canât capture the grandeur.
Loved our month in Stalker's Cottage. Exceptional scenery. We spent most evenings grazing on the deck enjoying the long valley view and the grazing sheep. Cottage was well outfitted with up-to-date furnishings, comfortable beds and great water pressure. And sooooo quiet. Our hosts were exceptional - great tips on places to dine and drive. If you're there on the second Sunday of the month, don't miss the Logierait Market. Fine restaurants in the Pitlochry area and the perfect place to daytrip the Central Highlands. Highly recommended.
Stayed for xmas this year, Stalkers lodge is an outstanding property, absolutely adored this place, amazing views from the lounge, many walks from the front door, unfortunately didn't do as many as we would have liked. Pitlochry not too far to drive to,the cairngorms are right on the doorstep.
We will definitely be back at some point.
We had a fabulous time at Stalker's Lodge this weekend for my birthday. Lucy the owner was so helpful and accommodating, and she replied quickly to my messages on the App.
The holiday houses (Stalker's Lodge and Keepers Cottage) are situated on a large estate about 9 miles from the centre of Pitlochry. The drive over the moor was brilliant with great scenery. What a retreat!
The Lodge had everything we needed for a relaxing break, including: comfy beds; tasteful decor (we loved the blinds with the wildlife); spacious rooms; a storage area for walking boots and jackets; great bathrooms with two excellent showers; and a living room with board games and books for children and adults to enjoy. There is also a large dining table. The kitchen was very well equipped with loads of pots, pans, utensils, glasses, cutlery and even some herbs and tea. We especially enjoyed cooking on the induction hob on the kitchen island. Thank you for the welcoming gift of the gin tasters - such a nice surprise! The lounge with the stove was so warm and cosy and we loved watching the birds from the picture windows.
It was especially great to walk around and explore the estate, including the Loch, walled garden, forest and hill with the unusual witches' stone. The suggested walks are a great idea. Being able to wander around the estate at our leisure was fab. The break was just what we needed, away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh.
Thank you Lucy for our wonderful stay. We were sad to go home and would love to come back again in the summer time!
If anyone is thinking of booking one of these lovely holiday houses, do it - we cannot recommend it highly enough!
Charlotte, Lorraine and Bryon
Perfect, stunning and extremely homely, fantastic location, we will be back
Stayed for 3 nights mid November, everything you could possibly want was catered for, even lots of LEGO for my 3 year old to keep her entertained! The views are breathtaking, peaceful, tranquil and relaxing! We enjoyed walking round the estate and exploring the secret garden! The house is impeccable and the decor is to a high standard!
Wished we could have stayed longer!
Lucy was fantastic, friendly and on hand to help with anything!
We will definitely come back, thank you Lucy x
