The house is very clean and accessible. We hardly stayed there but to sleep. AC was great, beds comfortable. Internet was hit and miss. The spotty internet service was not through any fault of the owner. I will stay again.

Beyond Disappointed

I rented this home for my two kids and me to stay during my daughter's state gymnastics competition, a trip to Kings Dominion, and Mother's Day. I started to become concerned about this reservation when I hadn't received check-in information from the property manager by 4 pm the day of our arrival, and the instructions in the VRBO app directed me to contact the property owner for check-in instructions. After not receiving a response to messages through the app or text for more than an hour and a half, I called the owner. She confessed they were having issues with their software and was able to send me the check-in information quickly. We arrived at the house late, close to 10pm. We were all tired and had to be up early for the competition, so I didn't fully inspect the house as I normally would. First things first, the internet didn't work. We were able to connect to the Wifi router, but there was no internet connection. This issue was never fixed during our stay. My utter disappointment and disgust...The house was not cleaned after the last guests. The bedsheets in the master bedroom were covered in bodily fluid marks, and the sheet was wrinkled as if they had been slept in for weeks without being laundered. There were beard trimmings all around the master bathroom sink and toothpaste splatter on the faucet. Hair and mold on the walls and bathtub in the master bathroom...Just the beginning. The owner sent the cleaner to address these issues, but completely unacceptable.

Simple home that did the job

We needed a place to stay for one night and this was perfect for that. However the rooster that resides on the property that awoke us at 5am was not requested. Think of the movie My Cousin Vinny. As for the lack of cleaning fee. I would have happily paid a cleaning fee if the house was cleaned prior to our arrival. The toilet and shower had not been cleaned in weeks. The floors had little piles of debris from someone sweeping the floors and leaving the piles to be picked up (guess they forgot to pick them up prior to our arrival). Positives, the heat was excellent as it was cold outside and cozy warm inside. There is a leather couch (not pictured) next to the fireplace so we didn't use the fireplace. Lastly check out time is 10am, which is unique but no biggie.

Would recommend a stay here. The house was fairly clean, the area is nice, the fire pit looks cool (we didn't get to use it). The place is not as listed so be sure to check. The pictures are out of date. The furniture is not as shown and not arranged as shown. The "kids room" has bunk bed, not pictured. Pretty sure only one of the other bedrooms is photographed. Yes, there are chickens outside, penned. This didn't bother us but we would have appreciated a note in the listing that they are there and we don't (or do?) need to take care of them, or that someone would be coming by (we didn't see anyone). Instead we were concerned about them in the cold and whether they had food & water. Just mention it up front, either way.The biggest issue was things missing/not working. An x box is advertised in the listing (I have screenshots) but it doesn't work. Watching TV was difficult and the 100s of blu rays was not possible. The remotes didn't have batteries and there weren't any in the house. We had to buy them from the store. Also some outlets in the surge protector weren't working and we were told to also buy a new one to use. Most items you'd want in a kitchen are not there (paper towels, napkins, baking pans, dishwashing soap, etc). Again, not as pictured.The hosts were incredibly responsive and took time to talk to us on the phone, which is nice. But the solution was to buy basics ourselves. They also blamed previous guests which also means they don't check between guests

Check In & Check Out Issues

Owner messaged and told me check in was at 5:00. I informed her that my confirmation showed 4:00. I checked in early because I came from MD and owner charged me $50 to check in 1 1/2 hrs early at 2:30. Upon entering the home and returning to get 2nd bag I was met by a Dominion Electric employee who first asked if I was the owner and I explained to him I was the renter for 4 days. He told me he was there to shut off the electric for non payment. He also advised that this was the second extension and the owner did not pay after the first extension. I called the owner and told her what was going on. She asked to speak to the employee and she told him she had the money in her pocket and would pay right away. She must have paid because electric was never turned off. She also said there are chickens and you can use the eggs. There were 3 live chickens and 1 dead chicken in the cage. So no thanks for the offer. On check out morning she messaged me and told me I needed to be out by 10. My confirmation clearly showed 11 a.m. The interior of the home was fine, but the outside needed lawn care and I actually swept all the dead grass off the sidewalk and porch steps so as not to drag it in the home. The side yard had several cars and 2 travel trailers which appeared to be unused for a very long time. The back yard was also full of debris stacked up next to the home. Just take warning if you are there with small children, the back yard could be hazardous for them.

Friendly and Welcoming

The house was clean and welcoming. It's in a quiet and semi-rural area. The owner has chickens and allowed us to eat the eggs. It is family oriented. The owner is super friendly and provides excellent customer service. We had a slight issue and it was fixed right away. She goes above and beyond for her guests.
