I booked this room for $795 (A$1,125) and made one short local call, which the front desk said would cost only a few cents. However, I was later charged an extra US$50. When an agent from Expedia contacted the hotel, they were told the call cost 45 cents and the total was $18—an extremely high rate for a local call that lasted less than two minutes. The hotel could not explain the remaining US$32 of the extra charge. I also never received a copy of the invoice at checkout, even though I was told it would be emailed to me. Overall, the unclear charges and lack of transparency were very disappointing.

This hotel is lovely, staff were truly kind & courteous. The hotel is showing age but the linens were lush & the rooms were well appointed with great amenities. Pool is beautiful too. Again I would have loved to have seen it when it opened 30 years ago. Currently it just needs a good scrub. Food was amazing as was the service by all staff. Thank you we enjoyed ourselves & Cairns.

Our room was ready in a timely manner and all the staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. It was also lovely that house service called in to check if everything was ok and if we needed anything even when the room had already been serviced during the day. Our room was nice and clean. We did enjoy the breakfast service provided every morning which was lovely. We also enjoyed the evening service of canapes and drinks. The only negative was that even with such a huge TV there wasn't any options for us to login to our streaming services - like Netflix etc or cast to it due to the TV not being on a network. we had to watch basic digital tv which was quite painful. We did also on checking out raised an issue with the room that there was water ingress coming through the ceiling in the main bedroom. Overall we'd highly recommend staying here.

We stayed four nights at Shangri-La The Marina, and the experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The magnificent marina and ocean views from our room were a standout feature, creating a relaxing atmosphere throughout our stay. The hotel’s location is exceptional—central, convenient, and within easy walking distance of the Esplanade, restaurants, and local attractions.
