Iâm rather at a loss at the rave reviews of this place. Itâs a beautiful looking, but quite basic set of college accommodation - not a hotel. That means practical things like no reception/ arrival after 8pm, breakfast only from 8-9:30, and check out at 10.
All of that wouldnât knock it down significantly for me were it not for some poor design / maintenance issues with my room (309).
The heating pipes hiss loudly even when switched off. The toilet dripped all night; then ran constantly keeping me awake. The extractor fan randomly switched itself on and off all through the night. The shower was missing a washer, which meant it shot out water sideways from the bottom of the hose. The water temperature regulation was totally shot and moved between Luke warm and scalding hot. The curtains donât black out.
All in all I had one of the worst nightâs sleep in any paid accommodation of the year (and I stay in a lot). At ÂŁ139 it would have been slightly pricey but okay had I actually been able to sleep - which is after all the most basic requirement of any accommodation. As it was, it was terrible value for money and I would not recommend it to anyone based on my experience.
Amazing to be able to stay at one of the colleges in Cambridge, but since it was a shared bathroom, and there was no sink in the room, I had to go out of the room to get water for the kettle or just to wash my hands, so that was quite inconvenient. And also you had to take the room key every time you left the room which then cut off the electricity in your room.
