Awesome Airport Hotel

Once again the Sonesta had priced itself to be the ideal airport hotel. This hotel really sets a standard that's difficult to match. Clean, quiet and very comfortable. This time I was able to enjoy breakfast, thanks to a later flight. A more than adequate start to the day. I would rate it SIX stars of they resurrected the airport shuttle.

This Sonesta Suites was nice and clean. It was a nice room for what it provided. I needed a refrigerator as I was carrying food with me. The bed was comfortable and there was a large sofa and a desk available. I only stayed for several hours as I had to get on the road really early. The friendly faces I came in to, though, made my stay really comforting. I appreciated this property for that. However, it made me think that all Sonesta properties are created equal, and chose to stay at another. They are not all equal. I would learn this one may have been stellar in comparison to others.

Okay, save for the horrid odor

The Sonesta ES Suites in Charleston was conveniently located near the state capitol. Regrettably, there was an offensive odor that permeated the interior corridors and, especially, our room. The malodorous stench was overwhelming and despite running the HVAC fan on high and opening the room windows as far as possible (i.e., approx. 2 inches up from the window sill) the putrid smell continued to permeate the room the entire night we were there. Fortunately, we only had to endure the agonizing fetor for the one night.

I was traveling with cantankerous parents who were very demanding and the entire staff went out of their way to accommodate them. I personally loved the accommodations and the atmosphere, bless their hearts!

I selected this hotel because it had a 9.0 rating on Expedia. Definitely not worth anywhere near the $223 nightly price. I give the room we were assigned a 1.0 rating. The room looked worn out. old, and dirty. It smelled musty. There was a large stain on the sofa and another large stain on the carpeted floor by the desk. The bed looked like it was hastily made up. We cancelled our stay. The front desk offered to move us to a different room but we declined. We ended up at the Hilton Embassy Suite in downtown Charleston for $30 less.

The staff were helpful and friendly. 5 stars for them. The cleanliness was fair; there were splatters of paint on different pieces of furniture (hot pink paint, like nail polish) as well as hand prints and cheek prints on the mirror. One of the pans had been scorched by a previous user. Overall I would stay here again; but if the cleanliness was the same I would be inclined to find other accommodations.

Look for a different place

The room was dirty and had hair/mold in the sinks. Hairs were on the floor and the room did not look vacuumed. The pull out had dirty sheets too. Also not disclosed but you have to pay $20 to park. Spots were very limited. If you like to get high you can hang out in the halls. Maybe that helps ppl not care about the room or its cleanliness? How it has a 9 is beyond me.
