Checked in with the understanding that the pool was open. Found out it was not. Front desk person was lovely. My 21 year old son with Autism was disappointed. Not too much later got a call from the front desk that a neighboring room had called down with concerns/noise complaints about our room. It was before 5 PM. There was no yelling. I explained that my son has Autism and does some vocal stimming- nothing over standard speech level. And the front desk person said, “Well do you think you can keep it down.”
I replied that I will remind Owen to be aware but stimming is his coping mechanism. The front desk replied that excessive noise could result in police involvement or us being asked to leave.
I was horrified and insulted and hurt for my son.
We travel often and stay in hotels frequently. I have never been threatened to have the police called on us because of a concern of danger or violence (there was none, never has been, never will be, my son is the happiest young man and view Autism as a gift). The hotel was at minimal booking so the complainant could have been moved instead my son and I had to walk and eggshells and act as if we were expected to be ashamed of Autism.
I will NEVER book with Clarion again.
We have hotel bookings for July and September and October as he plays competitive tennis and regularly travel for tournaments. And we have for years. I will choose more inclusive places to stay.
