We wish negative stars were an optionâthis review is worth the 2,500 refund we were denied. Our family traveled from across the country for our sailorâs graduation and were excited to stay here, but immediately felt uneasy. The space was much smaller than expected, and we discovered a separate back house not clearly described in the listing, which wasnât ideal with young kids. The property was dirty, smelled musty, and quickly became unsafe.The main house had windows painted shut (a fire hazard) and no heat. The host partially opened a few windows but couldnât fix the issue. We were told HVAC would be repaired the next day, but it wasnât. When we couldnât accommodate another visit time, they dropped off tiny space heaters that were ineffective. We were so cold we had to use the stove for heat, increasing the safety risk.Frustrated, we asked to leave and receive a refund, but the host repeatedly delayed. VRBO said only the host could issue a refund. The host falsely claimed we refused HVAC access. We eventually booked another place and continued fighting for a refund. The host even offered money back if we agreed not to leave a review. VRBO ultimately told us to dispute the charge with our bank.Bottom line: unsafe, dirty, freezing conditions and no accountability. Itâs worse than you thinkâdonât book here.
