I enjoyed the views and the Rooftop Bar was super cool to walk through, but we couldn't get a reservation even staying there to enjoy it for any length of time. The amenities were fine but they didn't have things as simple as cotton swabs when requested, and I wasn't thrilled with the hotel fees they tacked on at the end. The breakfast was excellent but I felt like I paid for it even though they said it was included because of those extra fees. Worth trying at least once and the location was outstanding.

Very overrated.

It was very disappointing—we reserved a 4 person room under two names. When we first checked in we were forced to pay additional fees since breakfast is only ‘free’ for the first two guests—a condition not clearly outlined when I first booked. The Riu staff were adamant about how this was an “exceptional hotel” unlike “typical ones” of their competitors, and talked up their services with an unbearable superiority complex—setting our expectations high. When my family and I went to the breakfast the next day— the only things we could eat were bread, cheese, and fruit! Everything was with pork ( no/very little consideration for any other religions or even lifestyles ) and the eggs tasted terrible—like any other scrambled eggs made at “typical hotels.” I will never come back nor recommend. I also was flabbergasted about them not having tea. Every other “typical hotel”, has it. I also saw that when they clean the silverware, plates, and cups they are very unsanitary with just a simple water wash enough. I now know why this is an exceptional hotel, due to the fact I have never seen this with any other “typical hotel”. The smoked salmon was aged and dry. Very disgusting. The edges were also discolored. Never recommend.

Expect to pay extra for stays with kids

I absolutely loved the location and the layout of the room. It looked new and was very clean. Almost all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because upon check in they charged me an extra almost $200 for my CHILDREN to stay with us. I chose this hotel over a different one because I saved $200 staying at the Riu. So joke was on me. The lady who checked us in was also unfriendly. But the rest of the staff and front desk were so friendly. Their included breakfast was amazing! I’d stay here again.

I enjoyed every aspect of my stay here. I liked it so much the first time that I just had to stay here the second time around. The only critique that I have is that the internet is really wonky and janky to connect to. My partner and I encountered a constant connection issue whereby it would take us a longer than 5 minutes to connect to the Wi-Fi/internet for the hotel. Only after multiple retrys would the internet connection become stable.

Excellent property in a great location to walk to everything and easy access to transit to the airport and sporting arenas. The hotel was clean and modern. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chicago.

Hotel room was nothing like the pictures when reserving the room. Bathroom was horrible. Shower was extremely small. I’m very petite & I barely fit in the shower. I had no counter space in bathroom to set my toothbrush or any other items. Ac barely cooled the room.

Hotel Riu was just eh

The Riu was just OK. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the pillows were not comfortable and there were only 2 small pillows on a queen bed. I called for two more pillows and they were bigger and better…they should have been the one’s that came standard on the bed. (The person that delivered them seemed very put out). I asked housekeeping, twice, to replenish the Kleenex box…never happened, not even when they cleaned the room. The breakfast buffet food was better than expected; however, it’s a chaotic space and made breakfast not very enjoyable. It’s just a gigantic free for all. The hotel location is great. Everything else was just eh. I guess I expected more. We won’t be staying here again.
