Review:
I want to share my experience so that other travelers don’t go through the same terrifying situation I did.
I booked a stay at Villa Dubouis Guest House in Chicago through Expedia for October 24–25 and October 26–27, 2025. When I arrived around 10:00 p.m., I discovered the property was located in a dark, unsafe, and desolate neighborhood — completely different from what was advertised online.
There was no front desk, no lights, no visible staff or security, and the place looked abandoned. I tried calling and texting the phone number posted on the door multiple times, but no one ever answered. Even my Uber driver warned me that it was not a safe area and refused to leave me there alone.
I was left stranded late at night in a neighborhood that clearly posed a safety risk. I had no choice but to leave immediately and find another hotel at my own expense.
What’s even more disappointing is that after reporting everything to Expedia, they denied my refund request, claiming the property refused to honor it — despite the fact that I never even had access to my room and was never greeted or assisted by anyone.
This is not about canceling a reservation — I arrived, I was there, and there was no way to safely check in or stay.
