This property is everything it advertises. No surprises here. Wonderful, quite stay watching the river and fisherman pass by. The birds were an extra special viewing.
We stayed in Arrowhead cottage over Easter weekend. It was perfect! The cottage is spotless. The decor is beyond reproach. Even better, it is comfortable. The wi-fi is excellent. The managers, Mark and Amanda, were wonderful to work with. It's a perfect location for people looking to fish, hike or go bird watching. Wood Ducks float serenely past the cabin on the Williamson River. They provide canoes for people who want to float the river. You can hike the spacious property or visit the surrounding wildlife refuges. It's a quiet, peaceful location for anyone who wants to disconnect from the world for awhile. The cabin doesn't have a television and we barely noticed because we were busy sitting on the back porch watching the river float past, the birds at the feeder and the eagles soaring overhead.
Had a great stay here. Our plan had been to use this as a base for exploring Crater Lake. Unfortunately, that didnât work out due to a winter storm, but we realized we were actually in need of a day of relaxation. We started a wood fire in the fireplace and enjoyed a day of rest and reading. Cozy and warm with a view of the Williamson River going by.
We really enjoyed our stay. It was very relaxing and loved all the birds and nature sounds. Only negative was there were very few eating out or grocery options close by.
Hosts and managers were great! Very helpful and great communication. We stayed at this property for the annular eclipse on 10/14/2023. We had a wonderful few days here. They made sure that everyone had the best location to gather for watching the eclipse unfold. Amazing property!
My husband and I stayed here 2 nights when we were visiting Crater Lake N.P. The location was perfect and what a nice ride to the park. But the real beauty of the place is the house itself. Right in front of a river where we had our morning coffees (and evening drinks đ). An eagle flew by, we heard the slap of a beaver tail, and the stars we unforgettable. We were greeted upon arrival and immediately felt at home. Took a walk along the river, cooked dinner in the kitchen and had a peaceful night's rest. We hope to return here and next time we'll get a line in the water! đ
Are you looking for a getaway to reset your perspective? Spend a few days here. Write a book, find yourself, or reconnect with your best friend. Beware, entertainment comes from the crackling of logs in the fireplace or a flock of birds skipping their feet across the river from the porch rocking chair. The way life used to be before technology. Oh, and they have an unlimited supply of firewood.
We had a wonderful time! Beautiful scenery and oh so quiet This was just what we needed-Thank you Steve! Weâll definitely see you again. All the Best, Sally
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lonesome Duck Ranch (May 28 - June 1st). It's away from the hustle and bustle of cities and all of us got to enjoy nature. Lots of touristy options at a few hour drive (crater lake, bend, Klamath falls, etc). They have a canoe and kayak (free) that you can enjoy. The ranch also has animals and kids had a great experience with them.
BTW, you need to carry groceries (including tea and coffee). Chiloquin is a very small town and will not have enough options.
We would love to get back soon.
We rented the smaller house for three guys. Itâs cozy and the property is beautiful. It!3 right on the Williamson River so you can fish in the backyard. Looking forward to trying the main lodge, which looks great.
Beautiful spot. House had everything you we wanted as a home base for crater lake day visits and some serious relaxing! It was a great surprise to have access to kayaks for paddles on the river. Managers and owners welcoming and helpful beyond expectations. Great stay and weâll be back!!
We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet serenity of The Lonesome Duck. We traveled each day for a visit and hiking in Crater Lake. Very easy drive and perfect access to park. You could not find a better location if Crater Lake is your focus. Just 2 recommendations neither a big issue if you are prepared. Bring food and water. We had both and glad Steve made us aware. The water has a strong sulfur odor. OK to drink but tough and really no food or restaurants around. Guess that is apropos as the spot is quiet, peaceful, serene and relaxing.
The cottage was very cozy and just perfect for our family. Everyone was very accommodating during our stay. The view and atmosphere is breath taking and super relaxing. Thank you for having us!
We were in awe of this property! Lonesome Duck turned out to be one of the best surprises and places we've experienced in our travels. The managers (Marshall and Suzie) were great and Steve (the owner) took the time to introduce us to Oregon's high desert. We will definitely be back. The cabin was tastefully appointed and surroundings were bucolic. Best night sky ever!
I stayed at Lonesome Duck for four nights with a life-long friend with the idea of having quality time to catch up and show him some of the spectacular sights of South Central Oregon. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. The cabin is simple but more than adequate with some very nice touches (check out the stone work around the wood stove). The river is beautiful and we enjoyed our evenings watching the wood ducks, muskrats, jumping (leaping, really) fish, and bald eagles from the porch. Marshall (the caretaker) was a real resource for guiding us where to go on day hikes etc. The only down side was the WiFi. If a guest really needs to have decent connectivity, this could be a problem (hence four stars instead of five). Might be something for the owners to look into. I also found the shower (one bathroom) to be a bit of a challenge. But, hey, it's a cabin.
Unbelievable place to stay, to get away, to enjoy the quiet. Steve's place is well maintained and beautifully decorated to the heart of Arrowhead cabin. He rebuilt it himself. And, the fireplace is the center piece. All your life's qualms go away sipping coffee, or whiskey, on the porch watching the river flow by. I highly recommend this cabin. Thanks Steve!!
