This was our second time staying at Jim Mountain Retreat. Obviously, we loved it enough that we decided a return trip and stay were worth it (all the way from Pennsylvania). We noticed that some of the spaces had been slightly updated, which was nice to see, as it says that the owners are paying attention and improving the property. We learned the hard way that AWD or 4-wheel drive is an absolute necessity after a hard rain. And, we also learned the hard way that the Wapiti Volunteer Fire Department is amazing because they were willing to let us leave their van at the fire department and shuttled us up top to the house in their personal vehicles! There was a massive house fly issue in the two "basement level" bedrooms that are in the below ground corner of the house. Given how clean the property is, we weren't overly concerned. But, for the two people who slept in those rooms, they were getting a real "Amityville" vibe.
This property has a great view looking out over the mountains and is close to the east entrance to the park. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies, pots, pans, dishes and etc., however, I was not able to find a toaster. Some beds were not comfortable and could use new mattresses. One of the rooms downstairs does not have any windows or egress, so is not a conforming bedroom. We were able to fit 6 adults and 6 children comfortably. The hot water heater does not keep up with baths and showers needed for this many people. It is fairly clean, but you can see corners and some of the decorations have layers of dust on them. The road to location is all dirt and gravel. It had rained one evening and the road became somewhat difficult to navigate. I can imagine a heavy rain would make it next to impossible to get to location without four wheel drive. Our front wheel drive mini van was struggling to get through some areas. We did not use the hot tub. There are several stairs to get to the main floor on this location, the ground level door takes you directly into the basement bedroom. Otherwise, you need to climb stairs to the deck. There is a patio entrance to the kitchen, but it does not have a lock you can open from outside. Overall it was a OKAY facility, but would probably not stay there again. We wanted something that put us closer to the park to limit driving each day and this place provided that for us.
This was a wonderful house, great location. If you rent, make absolutely certain you have a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. It is 2 1/2 miles of gravel road, up and down with tight turns. Fortunately we had dry weather; otherwise it may be difficult to get to.
We stayed here during our trip to Yellowstone. The cabin was perfect! The drive up the mountain was a little daunting at first, but easy to navigate once we did it. The views are just stunning! The cabin itself worked out great for our group of 12. It was clean, well stocked, and there was plenty of room for us all. We really enjoyed the porch and hot tub too. Iâd stay here again for sure and highly recommend it!
Amazing view! Everyone in our large group was comfy. The dirt road up to the house takes 15 minutes and that took a little getting used to but all in all it was worth it for the view.
Beds were so comfortable. Place was very very clean.
Doing business with Vrbo online was so easy. Would highly recommend this place. A bit scary the first trip up the road but easy after that first time. A beautiful place to stay.
This a very nice cabin. It is a nice get away that gets you out and away. You are up on the mountian side and have great views and it is very pieceful.
This property was stunning. Everything about it was perfect for our family reunion. It was up in the mountains with incredible views. Hot tub was added bonus. House was spacious and accommodated our large group very well. It was immacculate. I highly recommned this property and would definitely stay there again when I am back in Wyoming.
We loved everything about this place! The pictures we saw on-line do not do justice to the beautiful mountain views from every window in this lovely rustic but modern lodge. We really got the Yellowstone feel in this well decorated home and we loved the mounted bear, elk, bulffalo and antlered chandelier! We could not have asked for anthing better in this comfy well stocked home. Our pets loved the wide open safe spaces and so did we. I would highly recommend this place and would absolutley stay here again.
Location was incredible. The drive up the mountain was a bit daunting in the dark the first time, but we got used to it the more we drove it every day. Furniture and walls were dusty, oven did not work well, and heating system was not balanced throughout the rooms. Some were cold and some were burning hot. One downstairs bathroom shower and floor had mouse droppings in it that we had to clean before using. There was also a great shortage of towels and washcloths. BUT the views made up for all of it.
We are very grateful that the owner allows pets. The location is perfect if your planning to spend most of your time in Yellowstone (East entrance), Wapiti or Cody. From the highway the gravel road has steep hills and sharp turns and takes about 10 min. Breathtaking sunrises from the cabin! Unfortunately, we didnât see any wildlife at the cabin, but did see a few prints. It was unseasonably hot (102) during our stay in Sept.
I can't say enough about this vacation rental. I highly recommend it. It was very clean when we arrived, and it is in a peaceful and beautiful location. We enjoyed walking directly from the property to the trailhead at the end of the road. The hike there is wonderful. One thing to note is that it does not have air conditioning. The temperatures during the week we stayed there in July were fairly pleasant, but this may be a concern for some. We rent vacation houses once or twice a year, and this was one of my favorites for sure.
Our two adult sons with their families join my husband and I for a fantastic week. Excellent location between Cody and restaurants on one side and Yellowstone on the other. Perfect!
Beautiful home with stellar views and a great location between Cody and Yellowstone.
At night you can enjoy the clear night sky and see the Milky Way. Absolutely the best.
Beautiful scenery and house. Lots of room.
You pretty much should have 4 wheel or all wheel drive capability.
Rained our last day absolutely needed it then.
Otherwise very nice stay
