This was my first stay at this property, and it quickly became my home away from home. From the moment I walked in, I felt genuinely cared for. The lady at the front desk noticed how hot I was and immediately offered me a bottle of cold water. After check-in, we had a lovely chat, and she even walked me to the elevator. That level of hospitality truly set the tone for the rest of my stay. Every staff member I encountered greeted me with a smile. The atmosphere throughout the hotel was peaceful and welcoming. I stayed in Room 406, which offered a beautiful view of the Chattahoochee River, Mercer University, and the historic building that houses the Mill-House Kitchen & Bar. The room was spotless, stylish, and quiet—so quiet, in fact, that I didn’t hear a sound the entire weekend. It felt more like an apartment than a hotel room, complete with blackout curtains, a large flat-screen TV, and a small refrigerator (note: no microwave). The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and well-stocked. Breakfast exceeded expectations. The butter croissants were fresh and flaky, and there was a great variety: grits, eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham, and plenty of juice and coffee. Ms. Peggy, who was overseeing breakfast, was an absolute delight. She sat and chatted with my husband and me while the room was quiet, and we ended up sharing a wonderful conversation and plenty of laughs. She truly made our morning special. I highly recommend this little gem to anyone.

They're Giving it a Good Try, but Not a Boutique

City Mills has such promise - it's a beautiful-ish location, a historic building, a great staff, fine breakfast, good air conditioning. So what's not to love? Yes, a beautiful historical building and location, but spoiled by the restrictive hand of their parent company, Valley Hospitality. Who in their right mind would send the service man to sterilize the coffee machine at breakfast time? Who failed to provide a staff rest area away from the guest areas? Who doesn't keep the staff informed about how to manage issues? Yes, a great staff, but spoiled by a micro-manager, or perhaps a helicopter manager. He needs to let the staff rise to their level of excellence. Yes, a beautiful view of the old mill works and the Chattahoochee River rapids, but the other bank is Phenix City, which is about as unsightly as Alabama gets. Yes, I've been to Columbus scores of times, and PC only gets worse. And yet, the place has no soul. At these prices a boutique hotel needs its own logo on the cups, instead of using Sysco logo cups. An inn in a historic building should provide descriptions of how each room was connected to the rest. The reception and breakfast area needs soft surfaces and comfortable chairs to warm up the feeling. It's, in short, still institutional. We are very experienced travelers. We probably won't be back.

Great get away trip!

What a beautiful property and wonderful get away. Never been to Columbus before and it was a great location and stay. Staff was friendly. Hotel room very comfortable and clean. Not big on the barn door bathrooms but I know it was all the rage when the hotel was being renovated. Totally magical to watch the fireworks from bed for 4th of July. Breakfast was awesome and I only wish I had know how walkable and beautiful the river walk was! I definitely recommend a 4th of July trip- the civil war naval museum knows how to throw a party and fireworks with the clingstones was excellent too. Also so many interesting shops and the Bo Bartlett center rules.

Incredible stay

We have stayed at City Mills Hotel now for the 4th time and we have not been disappointed. Check in was quick and easy; love the 24/7 coffee machine that offers specialty coffee; the rooms are always clean and beautifully decorated. We love the walking/running path along the river next to the hotel as well as the lovely sitting area out front. And the breakfast was wonderful.

Great Hotel!

We had the most incredible stay here! The hotel was so beautiful with the most interesting architecture. Our room had a view of the river, and we had dinner at their restaurant, which was some of the best food ever! Would recommend this location to anyone heading to Columbus and the surrounding areas!

The City Mills Hotel is beautiful and the area is a pleasure to visit. The Mill House restaurant on site was also delicious. The staff at the hotel and restaurant were great and I look forward to staying there again some day.
