This looks like your basic roadside motel, but it's quite lovely. The owners recently bought the place and the rooms have obviously been redone, and they're very cute and smart. Ours had a little kitchenette--I don't know if all rooms have one--but it was so nice to have! And the best thing about the Selkirk is that the owner bakes for the guests--fresh homemade pastries (along with fruit and yogurt) every morning, and homemade cookies every afternoon! It's a lovely touch and we really enjoyed our stay!
The fact that it's a throwback to an era without stairs, no one walking on floor above you or running down a hallway outside your room! It has been recently remodeled and looks great! The host use to own a bakery and presents delicious home baked cookies in the evening and sweet breads for breakfast! We will go back!!
One suggestion is a grab bar beside the toilet for us older guests with bad knees.
The unit has functional problems, electrical, lighting entry to unit, step into unit is illegal, microwave-tv-frig on one receptacle. When coming into unit there is a light switch that doesn't turn on a light, but has a receptacle with it. If anything was plug in, you would trip, given no entry light! Was not worth in any way the price that was charged!!!!
The best thing about this property was the owner puts out delicious bakery items and other snacks every morning for the gu3sts to enjoy!! Overall great experience here!
So I grew up in the area, that being said I have seen the Selkirk through many owners and many conditions. This is the best I have ever seen it! The owners were very friendly and the room was clean and has definitely been updated. As a single female I felt safe and comfortable during my entire 3 night stay. They have fresh baked goods in the office daily. I am glad to see this little motel finally see some love and TLC. I will definitely book again.
I was a little worried when I pulled up being a single woman staying for a couple days. There was no deadbolt on the door and the doors are open to the outside. I could hear people talking, walking by etc. Overall the experience was fine, clean rooms, good enough for me
Perfectly adequate. It looks like they are making upgrades to this older motel. They quickly responded when I locked myself out of the room. The heating situation is just a wall heater. Bathroom and shower are tiny. Probably no a/c in the summer? They did provide a hair dryer when asked. It was good to see that they provided shampoo and conditioner dispensers. Not all rooms had a deadbolt. I took my electonics with me whenever I left.
room needs paint job. Bathroom shower is stained terribly, Needs to be bleached clean, Bathroom walls need new wall material or at least painted. need a light in socket in bathroom. Bed rolls to center. paint heater grill as it looks filthy due to rust on it.
Was very dissapointed with room for the money. No way to contact anyone as it was on a Sunday and no one working,
The parking area was too small and half of the parking was on a steep incline. The room was only average for nearly a hundred dollars ($99.55)! There weren't enough plug-ins for phones and such, and the ones that were there were inconveniently located (away from the bed and away from the desk). There were DO NOT DISTURB SIGNS you could place on the doorknobs, but the staff made noise cleaning about 9:30 a.m. and at 9:45 a.m. they acted like they were being polite by knocking on your door and announcing that checkout time was 11:00 a.m.
We had our alarm set for 10:00 a.m. because we got in late. They woke us up! This will be the last and only time we stay at Selkirk Motel!
I arrived at the motel before my husband, and was unloading the car alone when one of the staff kindly asked if he could help me!! I was touched and impressed!
The hotel was just fine for a quick stay on a bike trip. Itâs definitely a budget hotel. Blow dryer upon request, but the staff is only there during the day, and not much toilet paper. The rooms desperately need more lighting. One of the dimmest motel rooms Iâve stayed in.
