About this property
A Hidden Gem of an English Country B&B, near Dover Castle and White Cliffs.
Chance Cottage is our lovely home where we offer a small amount of B&B for a maximum of six guests at any one time. With a dining room for guests' sole use, there is plenty of space for everyone, enhanced by the traditional English country pub next door, The Chance Inn. Good food, real ales, a dazzling array of craft gins, and log fires in winter await tired travellers.
The house, originating from 1740, looks peacefully out over farmland, and is close to the many visitor attractions that this delightful part of Kent has to offer, including Dover and Walmer Castles, The White Cliffs, the increasingly popular seaside town of Deal, and Canterbury with its historic cathedral.
We do not have off road parking available, but there is ample free parking directly outside of the house or nearby.
We recently began sharing our home with two kittens, Florence and Jasper. Both are so very cute but be prepared for their high energy levels. They are half Norwegian Forest Cats, with all that brings! They are not allowed into guest accommodation, and we try to keep them out of the guest dining room. They do have the run of the rest of the house, so you will meet them. Thus if you have an allergy to cats, we are probably not a suitable place for you to stay.
This guest suite of two double bedrooms, with a Jack&Jill luxury bathroom, boasts comfy beds, full sets of towels per guest, bathrobes and toiletries. Both bedrooms have independent access via different staircases, one of which is through a secret door, where the stairs are quite steep. The bathroom is accessed through both bedrooms.
The suite is perfect for families, friends, and other people travelling together who are happy to share a bathroom between themselves.
Unfortunately some aspects of such an old house make it unsafe for children under eight, including the staircases and steps outside in the garden.
In addition to a good night's sleep, we offer our guests a substantial continental buffet breakfast in our stunning beamed dining room, together with a mini fridge for drinks, a selection of teas and coffees, a kettle and chilled water. There is a wood burner for those cold, wintry nights, with a small charge for wood used.
In the warmer months, we have a flower filled courtyard where guests can sit and relax, perhaps with a cup of tea or a glass of chilled glass of wine.
Your hosts, Joan and Steve, will be on hand throughout your visit. They will help you settle in, make yourselves comfortable and give any information about local facilities in the area, but otherwise they will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay.
