Wonderful location on the lake and view. Feels more spacious than it looks from the outside. May try to book it in the summer next time to really get to use the lake. The house has a bit of "old cabin" smell that's goes away once aired out.

Beautiful home that has been updated. Direct water access is superior- something very rare at this lake as we have stayed multiple places at Claytor Lake, the kitchen was well stocked which was very much appreciated. In Laws loved the thoughtful Shower grab bars and lack of excessive stairs. Our stay though was a little overshadowed by the deer ticks which were plentiful - we pulled off 6 the first day and two the second. I called to have the lawn mowed immediately which seemed to help but for basically two days we had to stay inside to avoid. Bugs happen but this was scary - I despise ticks! The only other minor drawback was the lingering cigarette smoke on the 2nd floor was most prominent in/near the master closet and bedroom for some reason so keeping that closet door closed and spraying Lysol which we brought, helped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the neighborhood and neighbors whom we met. Very quiet area with our boat docked practically outside the door is just a relaxing time (sans ticks of course : )

There is a difference in a property that is privately owned versus owned by a rental company, this home is privately owned and managed by a rental company. This means you get extra touches, like hand soap at the sinks, and more than a starter of trash bags, dishwashing tabs, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc... The neighbors are the absolute best, we talked to them every day and they were super helpful. We also loved visiting with their dog, Molly. The views don't get any better than at this house. Please be aware it is a split level. You walk into the level with a bedroom and a bathroom but must go down a few stairs to get to the main level kitchen, dining, and living room area. As disclosed, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom are on the second level. We stayed here with our adult kids and a family of 3, we had lots of space inside and outside to spread out or be all together. We like to visit different locations, but my family said they are ready to go back. Just book it!

Lake vacation for the family

We booked Dock Holiday for a short family vacation in the lake. We had 3 generations (8 people total) and everyone had plenty of space. The kids spent many hours swimming in the cove and the neighborhood was quiet and friendly. Perfect for families in search of a little peace and quiet. My parents were even able to bring their dog, which was a major perk. My parents are in their mid-70's and we were grateful they didn't have to climb any stairs to get to the docks. Communication was easy and checkin and checkout was a breeze. Definitely recommend.

Great stay

The house was clean, beds were very comfortable, it was a beautiful place and the lake sunsets were amazing. Neighbors were so friendly. The smoke smell was very minimal not a bother at all. Would definitely stay again.

Great time on the Lake!

Can't beat the location!

This house is in an absolutely amazing location on Claytor Lake. Nice, quiet neighborhood, views for days from the front porch/lawn, great deck/sunning/dock access to the water. Loved that the linens were included and furniture was comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. I was surprised to find only a Keurig for coffee and I may have missed that on the reservation and only brought a drip maker supplies. The house is stated as non-smoking but despite the owner's best efforts with an air purifying and multiple air fresheners throughout, an old, stale, smoking odor saturated the house, Neighbor's dog kept coming into the lawn for its daily poop multiple times a day and we had to dodge piles in the front lawn- but that's not any fault in this property just something I think they should be aware of ;) Again, something I may have missed in the policies but was surprised to realize that the "host fee and service fee" equaled almost another night's stay toward our total.

Birthday celebration

We stayed here as a central location btw No VA and Eastern TN to meet for a family member’s 80th birthday. The house is lovely and perfect for several couples to comfortably stay. It’s well supplied w/kitchen basics for meal prep and clean up. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it for anyone thinking about staying at Claytor Lake.

Hokie Visit by Lake

We wanted to see our daughter who's a freshman at Virgina Tech for a short family vacation. Wow- did Doc Holiday House deliver!! First, the location is amazing and convenient. You cannot beat the lake views from almost every room in the house, and so much outdoor space to enjoy it. The house is only about 30 minutes to VT campus and about 10 minutes from a grocery store, restaurants, and shops if you needed anything. It is also about 20 minutes from Claytor State Park where we walked and learned more about the area. The house itself was extremely clean, felt homey, and looked exactly like the photos. The kitchen has all of basics you would need to cook and enjoy breakfast or a few meals with the family. The beds are extremely comfortable and seem brand new. I loved that sheets, and towels were provided. I'm a little picky personally, and I was so happy with again the cleanliness and super soft sheets. Overall, I would highly recommend The Doc Holiday House. I also appreciated how well the owner communicated check-in/out and answered a few questions we had. We want to come back again during the summer months to enjoy all of the outdoor space and everything the lake house to offer! The only side note I want to add is regarding the neighbors dog. Another person commented about this and we found it very helpful. The dog did come over, can bark, but is very nice. We weren't worried or startled because of another reviewer. Hope this is also helpful!

Fantastic Outdoor Space

It’s clear the new owners have put a lot of time and energy into renovating the space and making it a comfortable rental. The amenities were brand new-I literally peeled off stickers and cut tags off measuring cups and dish towels! Everything you could need is in the kitchen and we enjoyed cooking and grilling our meals. They provided shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hair dryers, all very nice touches. The bathrooms are a bit dated but very clean. The outdoor space is fantastic. Gorgeous views of the lake from the lovely patio (great seating!), the benches along the water, and the many decks. We loved watching the birds dart around the large birdhouses in the yard! I did tell the owners about the cigarette smoke odor that still lingers. I believe they’re working on that and it will dissipate over time. On our second day when it was cooler we could open the windows and that helped. Our family is sensitive to smoke so it definitely bothered us the first night; others might not be bothered as much. There is a loud lab next door who seems a bit scary, but is actually quite friendly. Her name’s Molly and if you greet her and pet her she’ll stop barking and start wagging. We were glad we didn’t take our dog with us because I think that could have been an issue as Molly isn’t leashed and came over every time we went outside. Overall, this is a fantastic gem and we hope to go back sometime. It’s convenient to VT so we picked up our oldest and spent a relaxing weekend!
