Breakfast had good options, room was clean and cozy. The beer garden and surroundings were enjoyable.and the area felt.safe while being central enough.
Great location for exploring Durham. Lovely pub - evening meal excellent. Full English breakfast was very small (1 spoon of beans, 1 sausage etc - and ask in advance for your bacon not to be overcooked, as my one small piece was like shoe leather). Staff friendly but sticklers for the after 3 pm only rule for signing in. Despite those minor quibbles it's a great stay. Comfy beds, clean rooms and within walking distance for everything.
I loved the decor - quite traditional and full of character which I prefer to a more corporate style Some people might find it a little shabby, but very comfortable nonetheless, although a few minor maintenance issues like squeaky doors and wardrobe doors and missing curtain hooks, for example, could be easily resolved.
Breakfast was really good and all the staff were unfailingly helpful and pleasant.
Great location and great value for money.

Disliked: Staff & service
The property was okay. Walls are thin, I could hear the snoring from the room next door. My main issue was the price, we were charged £220 for night in a double room. I have no idea why it was so much because the usual rate for the room is much lower.
Good location for walking into Durham city. Good carpark on site. Room clean but very hot even without radiator on. Could possibly be noisey in high season as our room over main entrance and smoking area. Staff friendly and attentive. Food adequate. Seemed very pet friendly, ideal for guests with dogs. Website said there is a safe located in the bedrooms, there was no safe in our room.
Overall the hotel was clean and comfortable.
We felt that they were short staffed in the evenings. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first evening and it was disappointing. Our first 3 choices of starter (out of 8 on the menu) were not available. The mains took almost an hour to arrive and when they did, none of our 4 meals was hot. The best was lukewarm but we were too tired and hungry to send anything back. Only 2 staff covering the bar and restaurant was not enough, and we had to queue at the bar for wine for the table.
Kingslodge is a superior pub/hotel. Very comfortable, surprisingly quiet, atmospheric feel. Breakfast was well-prepared, staff friendly and facilities more than adequate.
