Itâs a hostel. There are individual rooms within a booked room. They all share an old bathroom. Book if you want to be central and only need a place to sleep and kind of shower.
This is student accommodation and we knew that but what we didnât expect was the extraordinary amount of door slamming that takes place here. We felt sure the world door slamming championship bouts took place each night between midnight and 3am! Really, Iâve never experienced anything like it! Bring earplugs. Also, you only have to look at the floor for it to squeak. If you can live with that then itâs OK. The positives are that itâs central, with clean bedsheets and towels and everything works, including all the various alarms on doors to the kitchen and the next apartment, which you can just walk into. We did accidentally and set off an alarm⊠So to sum up: Noisy; clean sheets and towels; fairly comfortable beds; run down with very stained carpets and furniture; functional kitchen and bathrooms. Itâs OK although overpriced but then the fringe is becoming crazy expensive all round.
We expected more of a family setup, but this was like a student unit. Four single rooms, a hallway, one kitchen at the end and one bathroom at the other. Cheap for the location, but the floors are extremely noisy to the point where it is almost impossible to go to the bathroom at night without waking up everybody. Pictures presented don't properly reflect what kind of flat it is. Also, there is a noisy bar next to the property and on more than one occasion we were presented with people urinating against the fence upon arriving at night.
"Apartment" is overselling what is a wing of 6 dorm rooms with a shared kitchen and two bathrooms. You get all the noise (slamming doors, hearing neighboring 'apartment' conversations) of dormitory living - but the location is excellent for central Edinburgh.
