Our five-star rating is predicated on this house being tops in its class, not for being luxurious: a real bargain for a beautiful, private swimming pool in a nice fenced backyard.
The house is modest but newly furnished and comfortable. We spent part of everyday by the pool thinking of the ice storms back home. The pool area is quiet and private, except for a voluble mockingbird that we loved.
Englewood is not fancy and the neighborhood houses are small, with many in the process of repairs following hurricane Ian. The neighbors are mostly friendly snowbirds or retired couples from the upper Midwest, including many veterans. A Publix is close by and a small entertainment area on nearby Dearborn Street has an assortment of informal restaurants. Our favorites were Café Culture for morning coffee, Englewoods on Dearborn for dinner food and entertainment, and Lock ‘N Key on the beach--but there are several other fun options. Some of the restaurants have lively happy hours.
The house is a great place to bring a dog, given the backyard. But, on night walks, it’s dark and beware of possums and armadillos if your dog chases prey. Our goldendoodle loved it.
