We stayed 2 nights in the âdeluxeâ double room No 4 directly behind reception.
The self check-in process was very easy to use.
I suspect like everyone else we were there to do the Alpine Crossing. So in that context it suited us fine, only a few minutes drive to the pickup point. The room was en-suite, the shower was okay once it warmed up and it had a decent TV with a range of channels.
The kitchen was well equipped.
Overall very good value.
We enjoyed our overnight stay. The facilities were sufficient and the online check in worked for us. The wifi was a bit intermittent though unfortunately.
Nice and cheap stay. Noisy kids running up and down the hallway (but thats not the accommodations fault.) Easy drive to Whakapapa so good spot!
Noisy heater fan in bedroom when it was closed.
Great budget location for exploring and hiking the park. Kitchen gets busy and was missing spoons (common issue in shared kitchens- we had our own so it wasnât a problem, somewhat dated and mostly clean. Liked the easy self check-in as well. Not a rowdy or loud hostel- we stayed here with our kids in a family room and had a great sleep and stay.
I liked the family room because of the heating was excellent, However the backpackers needs staff as there were guest hogging amenties such as moive room and kitch area gets over crowded
Tongariro park was on fire and closed. I messaged the hotel on hotels.com to enquire about the situation as roads were closed and a big area was evacuated. No answer from them.
Not to far from the center. My family likes entertainment area specifically the movies room serect. The first night cold in the room but the staff fixed the issue next day.
You can get into their warm reception area without a key - no problem - but (as there is no receptionist there) keep their phone number handy in case you have a problem signing in.
Great stay. It took a little while to get used to the fact that this property is unmanned but it actually worked very well. Check in was easy. The kitchen was well stocked. The shower pressure was great - although the shower is protected only by a curtain so not super private but wasnât an issue. The bed was comfy. We stayed in a private room which even had a smart tv! Hostel luxury! Would definitely recommend. It is in the middle of nowhere but easy to access Whakapapa village and the other attractions in the area
