This home had everything needed for family of 6. We did a lot of cooking in this home and kitchen is well stocked. The home was an easy drive to all our planned destinations and the location to downtown was an easy walk. If we are ever in the area we would stay here again. Thank you your hospitality.
We really loved the place, but the goat head stickers in the parking area and in the yard were overwhelming and we had to pull stickers off of our shoes and out of our poor dogs paws after every adventure outdoors. We could not spend much time in the yard unfortunately. Such a lovely, comfortable home, but the goat head sticker plants need to be dug out asap.
The house was really nice. But one of the main reasons I booked there was the nice fenced in yard for my 2 dogs. It was totally full of goat head sticker burrs.. I had to carry my dogs out the front door to the road to take them for potty walks. It had not been mowed or weedeated and was overgrown.
Wonderfully eclectic lodging in a quiet neighborhood that accepts pets. You could spend a day looking at all the personal artistic touches with southwest, Mexican, and retro vibes. The house was very comfortable, clean, and close to grocery stores and eateries. Kitchen was well provisioned and every room had interesting books. We enjoyed our stay!
This house is perfectly situated for exploring not just Fort Davis, but all of the surrounding areas. We were able to get to Marfa in 20 minutes, and Balmorhea in 30. Itâs walkable to the Main Street/downtown area where you can pop into funky shops and meet the lovely locals. We must have gone to the Stone Village Market at least once a day during our stay for iced coffee, food, and an insanely delicious banana cream pie.We felt at ease in this house, and very much enjoyed all of the thoughtful touches the owners put into it. They clearly love their home, and we felt lucky to get to experience it too.
This was genuinely one of the best VRBO stays we have ever had! The house is absolutely beautiful. We loved the space and the unique decor. Amazing art and beautiful, thoughtful decor everywhere. I'm inspired to paint and redecorate my room when I get home. Our party of 4 adults also enjoyed cooking in the gourmet kitchen, stargazing from the chairs and hammocks, and reading some of the wide selection of Texas themed books available throughout the house. We also made frequent use of the turntable and wide ranging vinyl collection - a perfect soundtrack for our stay. The location was also perfect. This was a great home base for our ventures to McDonald Observatory, Guadalupe Mountains, and Marfa. We were glad to return "home" to a comfortable house and warm, snug beds. Thank you so much - we will hopefully be back! I would be thrilled to stay here again!
The home was a fun and inspiring place to stay. Lots of books, art, and records to enjoy. Walkable to the Blue Mountain Lodge and other shops. The kitchen was well stocked and beds were very comfortable. Thank you for sharing your space with us!
It was easy to recognize that our hosts invested both monies and enthusiasm in the renovation of this unusual house! We were totally charmed by the quirky touches in furniture and knick-knacks.Appliances were top quality and perfect for our use. We added books to the lending box in front of the house and a couple of albums to the record collection. We hope to be back!
Highly recommend! Fossil+Folk is an excellent base to explore west Texas in every direction. Adventure and natural beauty abound! The golden leaves of the cottonwoods in fall are unforgettable.
We had a problem checking in, but once that was taken care of it was smooth sailing. (A reminder to ourselves to always touch base with owners proactively 24 hours in advance.)
Mark's home is so beautifully decorated in a Southwest/Mexican motif that we felt like we were in a hacienda. We discovered something interesting in every nook & wall, and wished we had time to read all of the great books in the living room. The turntable and selection of vinyl records was a big treat!
I'd love to stay here again some day.
Came into town to visit the McDonald Observatory, and the house was perfectly located for it. The house is full of funky, locally inspired art. Since it is an older home, I was somewhat concerned it was going to be cold at night, but we were very comfortable. Everything is very well appointed. Nice, modern appliances, nice custom shower, and very comfortable beds. I wouldnât hesitate to stay again if we head back out for another visit.
Top 3 of our vacation rental experiences! Great location for access to all things Big Bend. Owned by artists, the house is pure delight, furnished with folk art/outsider art plus lots of thoughtful and whimsical details. Complete with books about the west; a record player with a solid inventory of Willie, Merle, Emmylou, Patsy, Kris, & other country greats; plus a nicely outfitted kitchen. Bathroom also well-stocked. Beds were incredibly comfy. Hammocks perfect for stargazing. A quick 7-minute drive away from the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Research Center, and just a little longer if you're headed to Davis Mtns State Park. 30 minutes to Marfa. Highly recommend the Fossil & Folk House!
This was the perfect place to stay in Fort Davis! The home is beautiful with tons of books and artwork. It is decorated in a way that captures the feel of Fort Davis. It was clean with a fully stocked kitchen. The location was very convenient for our visits to the Fort, observatory, Balmorhea. Davis Mountains State Park. We'd love to stay here again next time we're in that part of Texas.
