Beware of standard room. The standard room we received had a strong smell of cleaning products and a non-working toilet. We were moved to a second room but found that room to be very out dated, moldy smelling and dark. We had a second reservation 10 days later in the "tower" area. That is a significant improvement. Advice is to stay away from standard rooms. Overall nice staff and good location.

Great location, near the River Walk with many excellent restaurants nearby on Las Olas. Staff were friendly and courteous. The room was spacious and well appointed. The only downside was one of the two elevators was down for maintenance during our stay which resulted in wasted time waiting for an elevator.

We stayed at this hotel before our cruise. This is the second time we have done this. If you don't want to stay on the beach, this hotel is in a perfect location for you, especially if you are not renting a car. It's right on Las Olas Boulevard with everything at your fingertips. It's an old, classic hotel that's been there for 90 years, so it has that special charm. Although older, the rooms are being modernized and Merline, who checked us in, upgraded us from a standard King room to an updated corner mini-suite with a terrace overlooking Las Olas, because we were repeat guests. We really appreciated and enjoyed that. Thanks Merline! This is our go-to hotel before a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale because we enjoy the atmosphere, the value of the lower rates as compared to the major hotel chains on the beach, and the proximity to everything available on Las Olas. The hotel offers several venues to eat and drink. One restaurant is right on Las Olas, but my favorite spot is the Boathouse bar and restaurant set right on the New River. So while you are relaxing and enjoying a drink or a meal here, you can sit back and watch all the boats and yachts drift by - its just wonderful, especially during the winter months if you are visiting from the cold and snowy Northeast like we were. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and spacious and the public spaces comfortable and upscale, with that old-world charm. We will be staying at the Riverside again.
