Very comfortable, clean & pleasant accommodations in a lovely setting. Excellent set up for our family, which was comprised of my husband and me, plus our daughter, son-in-law, their four year old daughter and gentle older lab mix dog. We were downstairs with our own bathroom, while our daughter and her family stayed upstairs, with a second bathroom. There was plenty of privacy for each party. Our hosts were immediately in touch with us with an offer of water, etc when the electricity went out during the day. We weren't in the house at the time and the electricity was restored within a short time, so there was never any problem. (We understand this happens in rural areas )The house is a drive from Shenandoah NP and towns with restaurants, but we were in no hurry, so that was OK. Washington National Forest is close by and looks beautiful and sparsely touristed. The next time we're in the Washington DC area we would definitely consider a return visit with hiking in the National Forest.
If one is seeking a rural retreat, then this wonderful property is perfect. Nestled in a valley surrounded by the Massanutten mountain, this historic converted school is beautifully maintained. Itâs conveniently located near hiking/mountain biking trails as well as campgrounds in the nearby National Forest, and ATV trails if thatâs your thing.Highly recommend!
A quaint, sweet place. If you are looking for a place to truly get away and unplug, this is it!! We were in the area for a wedding so it was a great place to relax around all the busyness. Would love to stay again to enjoy the hiking trails, games and fire pit with family.
We had a wonderful stay at this charming rental in Fort Valley, VA. The location was perfect for exploring Shenandoah National Park and nearby historical sites. The house was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. The peaceful, scenic surroundings made for a relaxing getaway. Highly recommend!"
Itâs a nice little place for a small group to use as a home base to explore the area. Nothing fancy at all. Kitchen was what youâd expect in a mid range rental. Beds were fine. B
The biggest drawback was the hvac. It was 79 outside and the AC couldnât get the house below 73. I wouldnât want to
Be there in the heat of the summer.
The home was super clean and I didnât feel like I needed to clean when I got there, which is sometimes the case. I cannot comment on nearby attractions as this was a quiet getaway for rest and relaxation. The area outside is smaller than expected since Ft Valley Road does cut through the green space at the bottom of the hill, but the view is lovely. The driveway is busy as there are multiple residences down that way, but this did not bother me. A wonderful covered porch is where I spent most of my time!
Beautiful and well-kept property. LOVED how clean it was! We stayed there with kids and grandparents, had a lovely time sitting by the fire at night, kids enjoyed the board games in the mornings. Would definitely stay again! Brian was super responsive.
The Schoolhouse is a charming, historic building with picturesque views of mountains and meadows. Our three year old delighted in playing on the wide front porch, and counting wild turkeys in the field across the road. It was too warm when we stayed to use the fire-pit, but it would be a terrific place for a fire on a cooler evening. The AC worked great in the house, so we sheltered from 95 degree heat indoors mid-day. The house is beautiful in its bones, with artful decor echoing the schoolhouse history. It had a nice book collection for all ages, and lovely modern kitchen and baths. The house was spotless when we arrived (though we made the mistake of leaving bananas on the counter and one was chewed by a mouse overnight). Old country houses will have mice no matter what you do, so if you wish to enjoy a romantic old country home, just keep food in the cupboard space and not on the counter. Our mistake. We would definitely stay again. This was a peaceful, comfortable, clean and charming home in an epically beautiful location.
My wife and I stayed at the Slate Hill School House and enjoyed every minute. Located in the beautiful Shenendoah Valley just outside of the George Washington State Park. The property provides a picturesque setting on a peaceful country road where you can enjoy the awesome mountain and valley views from the front porch. The sunrises are incredible as well! Brian and Stella were great to work with and very helpful and responsive when needed. The house is updated, comfortable, and includes everything you need to enjoy your stay. We highly recommend!
We had a great relaxing stay at this beautiful property over 4th of July weekend! The home was great, property was beautiful, and host was phenomenal to work with! Highly recommend!
My family was looking for a place to stay close to the Shenandoah National Park for a weekend trip. We found this property and we were so glad we chose to stay there! The house was so cute and the property was beautiful. We spent our evenings around the campfire! We were able to enjoy some hiking and explored the Luray Caverns (which is a must!) We highly recommend his property and host, both were exceptional.
Charming house and property. The views are remarkable! The horses on the farm nearby were a bonus - we loved watching them. We were surprised that there was no TV, but it wasn't listed in the amenities or in the pics, so that's on us.
This property was beyond our expectations. It is beautiful and well stocked and the hosts are amazing. We woke to birds singing and the beautiful mist on the mountains. Just a magical place that I would hope to be able to come and stay at again.
Beautiful location! The house was so clean and had everything we needed. We sat by the fire pit each night and we were well supplied with wood!
We will return!
We had a great time staying at the school house in late February! I've stayed multiple times before and keep coming back because the property is so relaxed, Brian is a super hospitable host, and we love the fire pit and views! A+++!
We keep coming back and back and back. Does that tell you everything you need to know? Adorable house. Lovely grounds. Fantastic hosts. Comfortable beds. Great hiking nearby. Book it before I do....(again).
We spent a wonderful family Thanksgiving at Slate Hill School House. The house was clean, well-equipped, and more spacious than we expected. Fort Valley is isolated, but there's great hiking nearby and plenty of peace and quiet. The host was very accommodating; we really have no complaints. This was one of the best rental properties I've visited.
