Check-in was easy, location was beautiful. Weather was very hot and humid, and house needed more than 1 portable fan downstairs to make it comfortable. Plenty of refrigerator space available. Nice large, clean garage to spend time as a group. Ceiling fan in downstairs bedroom appreciated, but needs longer pull chain for us vertically challenged people. Air conditioning unit in largest upstairs bedroom. Most sleeping area upstairs, but no bathroom upstairs. Works for a large group of younger people.
Positive things: nice yard, nice view of the lake, newer bathroom finishes, extra appliances in the garage, two showers, fans available. Garage sitting area with a TV was a nice plus. Kitchen was mostly well supplied, though nonsensically organized. HOWEVER, this old house has lots of issues. Several windows could not be opened or they would fall down (slide latches were broken). They even fell on and injured our children. Humidity is a big deal and even led to mushrooms growing out of the wall behind one of the showers! Towels and toilet paper were insufficient for our group. Responses to our queries were unhelpful and slow. At least the bedroom with the twin beds has peeling paint on the walls, which could easily be lead-based paint. Twin beds are old and VERY creaky. The slightest move made a lot of noise. Maybe put the mattresses on the floor. Several of us came home with multiple bug bites. Hard to tell if they were spider bites or bed bug bites. Took precautions, just in case. One possible culprit would be the recliner closest to the dining room. Toilet mechanism in the garage bathroom needs to be replaced as it runs continuously. Shower heads in the garage bathroom have issues: One is broken and sprays out erratically; one is too high; one is too low. The water pressure in the kitchen was very low. The house is VERY close to the road and you have to cross the road to get to the lake, which is mucky and weedy.
We thoroughly enjoyed this stay! Everything was great! There are games and kayaks. The two refrigerators were really handy for storing all our food and beverages for a week. The best thing is the magnificent view from the front porch. Terrific location near two Sandy beaches, and itâs quiet at night. Owners are very responsive to communications. Would definitely stay there again!
Thank you for having the perfect home for our family of 8 adults age ranging from 87 to 22. We all enjoyed our morning coffee looking at the open water. We enjoyed the property with swimming, kayaking or playing lawn games as we waited for the beautiful sun sets. The garage was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the July weather not exceed 75 degrees. Our family also enjoyed Fayette State park for its beautiful quiet beach and Historic ghost town. We also enjoyed the local restaurant âthe Dock grill â and âSherryâs Port âfor fresh White Fish.
This was our second time staying at this property and we had a wonderful time. We spent the majority of our time in the garage or on the beach. The home is older but worked well for us! We would definitely stay here again!
Not truly pet friendly and the property is accross the road from the lake
We expected water front property with grass that transitioned into a sandy beach. The house is across the road from the lake and the sand ends before the water; there are slippery rocks as you wade into the water. None of the pictures or description made this fact clear. We paid for pets and the property is listed as pet friendly, however, two hours after our arrival, the owners dropped off a manual and in the manual it states that pets are to be confined to the garage. That is not pet friendly. The beds are not comfortable and if you are taller than 5'2" you will be too tall for the double beds. We still enjoyed our time in Garden and there is a place to buy fresh fish right down the road. If you're just looking for a place to crash because you plan to fish all day, this place may be a good fit for you.
Lovely place to stay. The garage space was great to hang out in. We spent most of our time there! Sunsets were fun to watch down at the marina right down the street! Wish it was more of a sandy waterfront but we made it work but still great to be right on the water. Overall great stay and the host was great to work with.
The St. Martin house was more than we couldâve imagined. So many details thought of- especially extras for the kiddos. We always camp at Fayette, but since our sonâs leukemia diagnosis, wished for a few more creature comforts. We love the history of the area and are so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay in this house. Weâll take the boat traffic over cars any day, and the proximity to everything we love in the peninsula which might not be exciting to others but it was just the break we needed. Canât wait to come back.
This little getaway was just what we were looking for. Some fishing and relaxing. Place was very clean, house was stocked with everything you could imagine. Loved the garage, we practically lived in it. Plan on using it again.
This nice older home worked great for our trip to the UP. We spent the majority of our time in the garage, so I recommend moving the bigger living room tv to the garage. Overall it was a great stay!
This was one of the coolest places Iâve ever stayed. There were 8 people in our group and the house could not have been more accommodating. The house was clean and neat. With 2 baths, 2 kitchens and 2 laundry rooms this made the stay a lot more comfortable for 2 families. It felt very much like home. The house was stocked with everything we needed to get comfortable. The house had 3 kayaks, fire pit at the house and on the beach. Thereâs life jackets, yard games, board games, grill. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The sunset and the night stars were more beautiful then I have ever seen before. Itâs very quiet and dark at night. The closest gas station was about 30min away. Fayette state park is a short drive away and was a great place to visit. All in all we would love to go back to this place every summer!
