The people running it were so nice and extremely helpful. We got set up with a guide to take us on a hike to a spectacular waterfall, and were told of other places of interest. The food was delivered hot to the house and was plentiful and good. It was odd that in the very well stocked kitchen, there was no silverware. We donât know if there was no hot water or if we didnât figure out how to use it. Some outside chairs would have been nice
The house was exactly what we had hoped for - clean and with enough space for our family of five to sleep and stay comfortably. Our local host, Gerardo, was absolutely amazing. He greeted us with a smile and helped us plan amazing adventures from viewing incredible waterfalls, azure blue pools and cultural experiences (learning how to make local dairy products). The food at the local soda was delicious and filling - my three teenage boys approved! A great place to stay in a magical part of Costa Rica.
After the 45 minute drive on a rough gravel road we were happy to see the property was ok, however it was surrounded by a chain link fence. The lady that let us in immediately locked it when she left. The view from the patio, which had no chairs, was Tico yards, and there were lots of barking dogs. Every thing in the house worked fine.
We had a wonderful stay! Gorgeous lush nature, so many birds and humming birds, the water is storybook blue! So gorgeous! The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious. We felt so welcome and would definitely go back. There are many hikes and tours nearby.
My group was planning a day in Sensoria which is only a 15 minute drive away. This place was off the beaten path and exactly the authentic Costa Rica I was looking for. Gerardo and Zelmina are wonderful people. I was practicing Spanish and they were excited to help me along and let me try. Zelmina can COOK! She would tell us all about every ingredient in her meals, where they grew, and how they made the food better. I would have slept outside in a mudpuddle if I got to eat her cooking. I loved it here.
Very impressed with the stay! Very clean, piping hot water, rancho and plenty of fruit trees on site. Less than 5 mins to hot springs and Dino Park. Soccer field across the street. Excellent food. Kids loved it. We WILL be back!
The area of Dos Rios is a beautiful rural jungle under the shadow of Rincon Volcano. Though we were there for only a couple nights, we barely even scratched the surface of everything to explore in this beautiful location. Our accommodations were comfortable and clean. I enjoyed the spacious shower. The best part of my experience was the complimentary breakfasts next door and interacting with the very warm and gracious hosts. They certainly made us feel at home. Booking tours through them was very easy and our guide just as warm and gracious as our hosts. Given the chance to come back and explore Dos Rios while staying at the Gavilan House, we would in a heartbeat.
