We stayed two nights and made day trips to areas close by. Room was comfortable and clean and owner Jennette was friendly and very knowledgeable about places to go see.
I would not hesitate to stay there again.
I was pleasantly surprised with how nice of an accommodation Hilltop was. We stayed in the "motel" part, but after finding out about the lack of places to eat in Grand Marais, I probably would've opted for the cabin so that we could cook. It was a very nice, clean, quiet place to stay and close to everything in Grand Marais, including Sable Falls and the log slide overlook.
His was a reasonably priced motel room. It was clean with basic features. The walls are thin so hopefully you have quiet neighbors. A beakfast of pastries and coffee was included. I would suggest better quality coffee and something with protein for breakfast. The location was close to town. We would stay there again but would be more inclined to rent a cabin to make it easier to cook.
We booked the hotel to stay overnight before hiking the North Country Trail. The hotel is nice and clean, located about a mile from downtown Grand Marais where one can go for meals. The room has refrigerator and tv. The hotel provides home style continental breakfast. The only drawback is that there is no transportation provided between the hotel and the trail head (or to downtown) - no courtesy shuttle, no taxi. We needed transportation to the trail head as we parked our car at the hiking destination at Munising Falls.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin. It was clean and lovely. Not great water pressure in shower. The continental breakfast had very few options so we had to go elsewhere. Otherwise the owners were friendly. The area is gorgeous.
I needed to find an escape to recharge myself an I was not disappointed in my stay at Hilltop Cabins and Motel. It was so quiet and peaceful I did not want to return home. I have already recommended this place to all my friends. I stayed in the opossum room and can't wait to return in warmer weather so I can sit outside on the deck reading and enjoying the view.
Space heater; complimentary, continental breakfast was not mentioned or posted - lifts off in B'fast room
Cottage nice with good view - very cozy. Rooms well prepared except for regular heater.
Staff a little harried and unavailable.
This was a holiday weekend. When we arrived everything was ok but I took a nap and woke up to bugs in the bed. The manager/owner said "Oh I thought we got them all" which means they knew about this problem already. They should have called me. Then I spent an hour trying to find another place to stay which doubled my price. Bad business.
We were informed our room would be upgraded to a bigger cabin due to a maintence issue with the one we booked. It was an ungrade we considered possibly doing anyway, which impressed us. The cabin was clean and tidy. The view was incredible. The land is very intermingling friendly. The bonfire pits were enjoyed. The continental breakfast is small but very perfect for the season. The owners are very friendly.
We loved every single thing about Hilltop Cabins. We even booked our upgraded cabin for the same time next year. I think it will be an annual thing.
It was a quaint place, very quiet. The motel room could use a few updates. The door had a pretty big gap at the bottom. When we went for breakfast there wasn't one and it was suppose to be included.
Nice location but amenities need attention: no housekeeping; poor water pressure; water not hot enough; beds too soft; drapes too thinand allow light in; no A/C.
When we first arrived, the owner was out doing a supply run, but she left a note telling us what cabin we were in with doors unlocked so we could get in.
Unfortunately, because of weather, our plans had to be changed and she was really helpful in letting us know what else we could do for the day.
Definitely I would recommend this hotel! Our only complaints were 1) at 11:00 p.m. kids were still running around yelling, which was a distraction to sleep; b) there was no breakfast available when they said it would be - only old cereal and day old muffins and c) the toilet was extremely low to the ground, so it made it difficult for an older tall male to sit down. These sound very petty; overall, it was great. Loved the cute headboards and the beds were to die for comfort wise! Great parking and easily accessible to Grand Marais. Owner extremely cordial. There was an outdoor patio near the checkin where you could sit and watch Lake Superior - gorgeous view. We had a wonderful stay!
