Itâs a beautiful property well planned. No running water and an outhouse. Solar electricity, which works fine if you donât overuse it. We love the experience. It was challenging Iâm 79 and my partner 84. We needed to be in reasonable condition to manage the challenge.
Three nights. Enjoyable. Interesting to live the ownerâs OTG vision. Similar to tent camping in remote locations, the property provides experiences and insights into what efforts are required while providing great comfort amenities. It forces planning and thoughts of the ecological footprints we create daily⊠water usage, basic personal hygiene and meal preparation including clean-up. The property setup accomplished what we were seeking- a slow down and an adoption of the sunrise to sunset rhythm. Any trip into the MN woods can be âbuggyâ. We were unfortunate in hitting the cycle peak, but that only forced more creativity.
Beautiful location with all the necessary comforts. Clear instructions for anything that is unique about being off grid. Worked great for our group of four friends.
This is one of those properties that sounds like a perfect get away for some (like us), but probably isn't perfect for everyone. So if you read "off-grid cabin on Lake Superior on 20-acres of boreal forest" and got really excited, you'll probably love it (like we did). However, there is some extra "care and feeding" involved in staying at a property like this, like actively managing wastewater and trekking to the outhouse. But the simplicity of life with limited electricity, combined with waves crashing on the rocky shore just steps away, were truly rejuvenating. There's great hiking nearby and Grand Marais is a short drive if you need a meal out. We will be back again!
