We always consider Holiday Inn Express to be a cut above the usual midgrade property, and this stay reinforced that opinion. The room was spacious and well maintained, with plenty of light and a very comfortable bed. The furniture was comfortable and well chosen, the bathroom bright, clean and well maintained. The shower was excellent. Our overall impression was that this property was well worth our time, and that we were very lucky to find it for the price we paid on our way home from the U.P.

James was very good in the breakfast area. He kept everything filled up and the area clean. He was very pleasant to talk to. Upon returning to our room, our key wouldn't work. It was only 9:45am, checkout is at 11. We had to go to the front desk to get our key programmed again. The maid said they probably thought we had already checked out. What?!

The front desk staff was wonderful. Check-in was smooth, the room was clean, and we didn't have any issues until we got back to the room on the second day. Our AC went out, no idea why, the front desk staff was amazing and allowed us to move rooms but it was so late that it wasn't ideal. Not the staff's fault but the hotel could use some love. We found lights that didn't work in the second room. And some of the USB plugs in both rooms didn't work.

A pool was advertised. The door to the pool room was locked. And the water in the pool looked green. The complementary breakfast was the worst oatmeal I’ve ever seen and you could not even get it off the spoon
