Staff were fine but the hotel was poor. No internet in room. A shower that was so small and the TV where you needed a degree or a lot of patience to operate. Wonât be staying again
I booked into the hotel due to free parking the availability of a bar and restaurant. I was disappointed to find there was no bar or restaurant but a cafe that stopped food at 7.30pm and closed at 9.00pm. The cafe was a 10 minute stroll from the hotel reception, which is fine if its not raining and blowing a gale. The room was adequate and clean but only had one chair in a double room. I feel the hotel needs to make it clear to clients that the facilities are a let down
Bare bones hotel, inconvenient setting, nice folks but the property hasnât been updated since Thatcher was in office. Bad smells throughout. You get what you pay for.
Room was clean, but showing its age. It was on the small side, but big enough with all the facilities required. What we particularly liked was the french windows opening onto a small seating area, beyond which was the carpark. We used this as our main entrance and exit to the room. Very convenient. We can imagine this being very pleasant in the summer. The marina also benefited from a cafe/bar on site, serving simple pub food and breakfasts.
We tried to check in at 1230 but were too early. In the afternoon we received an email giving us the room number and a link to chat. We tried but got no response. By the time we returned from our afternoon outing, reception was closed. We were supposed to phone security to check in but because we were from overseas that was difficult and there were no online options. The security guard was very helpful as were the cafe staff. The room we got was up a narrow staircase- maybe a converted residential house because soundproofing was non existent. Doors closing at 4am, trains passing, cars parking or leaving, even the birds tweeting - we heard it all. There were bright green lights in the ceiling of the room and bathroom which lit up the whole room and couldnât be switch off and light seeped in from the hallway around the room door. Glad it was only an overnight stop.
Nice hotel I have stayed a few times and all rooms seem bright and spacious. Plenty of free parking at the hotel which is helpful. Staff friendly at reception.
Close proximity to the train station which was essential for our onward travel to Stansted .
The staff were friendly , the rooms, although slightly dated , were spotless & the bed comfortable.
The location was really pretty being on the River Stort . We made use of the onsite cafe / bar. then took an evening stroll along the river bank .
It would have suited us to have breakfast
in the cafe but it was closed the following morning for a deep clean , which just shows
cleanliness of the place .
There was nothing not to like . We hope to stay again .
