Basement needs pest control. Killed 6 large spiders, and two insanely huge grasshopper like bugs. We were also unable to get the basement cool enough to have a decent night's sleep. The electric outlet by the master bed does not work. The glass light cover above the bed fell on us while we slept, and the dead bugs that were trapped in it were then on the covers. We had to get up in the middle of the night to clean this, Lastly, there was no wine opener. We had to go back out to purchase one after getting our groceries.
My family of 3 had a wonderful time. The apartment was cute, well appointed and very clean. It is a basement apartment so itâs a little dark but we spent most of our time outside so that wasnât really an issue for us. Mirror Lake was great for canoeing. The location, on a lake, near Highlands canât be beat!
The owners stayed in the house above us our entire week long stay. They were very quiet and extremely respectful of our space. Definitely would rent again!
Out stay was very nice. The place is well appointed and well situated for a quiet time, but not too far from town. Enjoyed watching the squirrels gather hickory nuts for winter.
Key code is very difficult. My husband could get it to work after 5 or 6 times. I never could get it to work. Description said bungalow which is a small home. Description wrong it is an apartment several floors under. Too many steps for carrying things down. Too dark. Maybe put in a window over the sofa. Kind of funny I had lights on everywhere because I like light. I put a navy blue top on instead of black. I put a sweater on and didnât notice till we got away from the house. The parking is not adequate. We didnât feel it was safe in the tiny spot. On the plus side everything was nice and new. The heating is inadequate. I finally put it up to 78 but we were still chilly. The tv worked great. We still enjoyed our stay.
Nice, clean and quiet. Many steps to navigate from the parking spot to the access door and many to the dock.
Unusually high step to get into the bathtub/shower. Itâs a very deep tub and the foundation is raised 2 or 3 inches. This may affect people older or those physical challenged.
The automatic coded lock on the door is difficult to see the numbers until the first number is entered, then it will light up.
Nice dock enabled me to launch my inflatable kayak and enjoy the lake.
Also be aware of the challenging narrow roads which are common in this area. Also, only one parking spot for this lower apartment.
Overall positive stay and the owner was available to answer questions.
We loved the location ; it was quick and easy to get to downtown as well as to the falls , hikes, etc.
The home is just adorable! Cozy and yet open living area. Comfy bed in master suite.
Hopefully we will get back up there soon!
Very well laid out and comfortable. The description is accurate, the check-in was very smooth, and online manual is very clear. This was an excellent alternative to the local hotels.
Clean and cozy. Five minutes from town and 20 min to an hour from other locations near by. We visited Lake Toxaway, Cashierâs, Cherokee and one day we even drove 2 hrs to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Cades Cove.
Great location, convenient to Main St. Only suggestions: No yard made it a bit challenging for puppy potty breaks. Need more outdoor lighting on exterior stairs.
Overall, nice for two adults. Price was reasonable.
The description and pictures of this listing are accurate, except we were not quite expecting how dark the apartment would be. Both outside areas are covered and at least at this time of the year the house appears to be on the shaded side of mirror lake, as the houses across the lake appeared to have a lot of direct sun. It is a very nicely appointed, cozy apartment and the dock is lovely. No one was staying above us during our stay. More lighting inside and screens on the windows so they could be opened would make it feel more airy/open. The A/C is not central but a wall mounted unit. It is very convenient to downtown Highlands.
We were looking for a very quiet, secluded, spot and this for the bill. Very clean, nice and comfortable. Def not luxurious so, if thatâs what youâre looking for this isnât it. Was perfect for what we were looking for thought. Nice dock in the lake that we used every evening after our activity for the day. Minutes to downtown Highlands.
Cozy but more than big enough for the two of us. Awesome view of the lake, which has a lot of fish in it by the way. Beautiful views in the neighborhood. You feel like you're secluded, but you're not very far from downtown Highlands. The owners are great to deal with.
Owners are great and place is done well. It is in the basement of the house and therefore has drain pipes running throughout and you can of course hear everything from above.. It is very small with short ceilings so if you are a tall/larger/claustrophobic person and/or more than one/two people it will feel even smaller then it actually is ( we are 6â4â and 5â11â with a 9lb dog) There are a few smaller windows but no screens so you really canât open the windows/doors to enjoy the fresh air without also letting in the mosquitos etc that are very common in Highlands along mirror lake. Pretty lake views and location is awesome. Parking is a challenge if you drive a truck or have more than one vehicle but perfect for a small car. Itâs also a good bit darker Inside then the light filled pictures indicate in the profile. With all that in mind it could be a great choice for the right people.
We stayed here over July 4th 2020. This is a very well done unit in a great location. Very easy to get to downtown Highlands and easy access to the roads to get to great hiking spots. As noted in the property description, it is a finished basement. Inside the unit was not bright, but we spend most of our time on the ample private deck and at the dock on the lake (both with amazing views), so that wasn't an issue. The unit was also quiet despite having living quarters above it. Kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was very nice. I would definitely stay there again.
I can tell that the owners have invested a lot in the renovation of this cute little cabin. And I will say that the kitchen was set up nicely - especially the nice new dishes, glasses, pots, pans and knife set. My visit got off to a rough start as the heat did not work and it was really chilly in the cabin. We got this resolved the next day and I was much more comfortable the following day and night. I have to say, that the photo with the listing shows a pretty, sunny deck, but that was not my experience. I think this shot was taken in the winter when the sun is low in the southern sky. The deck got no sun due to the upstairs deck over it, so the whole unit was rather dark. I think this unit would be great if a big family or group rents the whole house, and uses this unit for extra guest bedrooms.
Be mindful this is, very small, dark apartment under an occupied house.
This place in not a house or cabin, it is more like a townhouse or apartment and the fact that the house above us will be occupied at the whole time was beyond our imagination. You can hear all movement above, even when they use the bathroom. We paid significant amount of money to rent a cabin for relaxing and privacy, and not an occupied place. Overall we neither had calmness nor privacy. Not even for one day!
I write this review because, there was no indication in the description that the rent would be occupied which obviously dramatically decrease the value of the rent, and we wouldn't have ever rented it if we had known it in advance. Refund requested
was good until the owner sent me an email asking if we had taken a pet after cleaner reported an "abundance of hair". Wasn't sure how to take that! Assured him we had no pet & he seemed content with my response. Probably will use vrbo again in the same area but will choose a property with a fireplace.
