So when you check into the Empress, you expect to stay somewhere that doesn’t look like it was decorated by a cabal of terminally depressed millennial hipsters. Grey. Dark-gray. Blow-my-brains-out-grey. Oh, and don’t forget the metallic accents. Whomever thought it was a good idea to panel over the stained glass in the reception lobby and replace it with a Swarovski monstrosity; shame on you. Period furniture scattered forlornly around the property to remind you of what’s gone.

Had a wonderful stay at the Fairmont Empress and very glad I upgraded to the Gold package. The lounge area was a perfect place to work or relax after a full day, and the breakfast options were great. It made my stay and I can’t wait to go back.

I love the history, honestly the main reason to stay here is to transport oneself back 100 years. For that it was fulfilling. It never felt too busy - though breakfast is a little hectic though they treat you well with coffee and croissants! My only issue was being let into our room only to have drink rings all over the desk from the previous guests. Two calls & 3 hours later, it was cleaned. No bueno for this ‘upscale’ hotel. For this, I would expect a few words from management. Just…something. It is easy to fall through the cracks here.

We loved everything about Victoria. We felt very safe!! Zachary the bellman/valet was amazingly friendly and welcoming. The staff at the Empress are incredibly good and professional. I would totally recommend the hotel and can’t wait to return!

Fairmount has the best location in Victoria, central and walkable to museum, harbor and shopping area. Our king suit didn't have a view, which is a bit sad. The pool is a bit outdated. We still enjoyed our stay.

We went here for my husbands birthday. They treated us like royalty at all times. The staff left champagne and fruit in our room, along with a hand written note. The bed was turned down every night with water at the bedside. The bar is fantastic. They had this wonderful popcorn they handed out for free. We could walk to all the fun areas in the area. We will be back in the summer.
