Great stay

Great stay with the most friendly courteous staff I have met in a hotel. Great warm welcome at reception and great service from the staff at dinner and breakfast. Room very clean and bed and pillows very comfortable. Breakfast very good with good choice. The hotel is old fashioned and has real character I would stay again and recommend

Not as welcoming as usual

The hotel is in a lovely spot in the town of Ilkley, although it is up a hill, almost a mile from the town centre. We have stayed at Best Western Hotels many times over the years and found that this one didn't meet the usual standards. After parking our car in the car park we were faced with a set of very steep steps to get us up to the road outside the hotel and then more steps up. On checking in, we were ignored by the first member of staff we saw, but after a while another member of staff came to our rescue and mentioned that younger woman was learning the ropes. Fair enough as we all have to learn, but the young member of staff could have said someone would be with us soon instead of just leaving us standing there. Our room, number 234, was up in the loft to the second floor, then down steps then immediately up another steep set of steps with our suitcases! We are both pensioners and not in the first flush of youth! The room was fine, but somewhat warm and we had to leave the window open each night to breathe. At reception, there were hardly any tourist leaflets (we were told they had been removed) and a street plan of Otley, not Ilkley. The staff member managed to find me one but the reception did not have any for the 3 days we stayed, just the Otley town plan! Not useful for their residents! The next day we couldn't access our room. Probably due to the learner on the first day as the key had been wiped. All those steps up and down twice at the end of a busy day!

great location, nice clean hotel, needs a little bit of maintenance upgrade in a couple of places but nothing major and was good value for money. Only problem was the bed was two singles pushed together so not very comfortable when you are on a romantic weekend away shall we say!

On the first night there was an Ilkley Business awards night. On the second night there was a wedding party. Both nights were noisy into the early hours. The fire alarm went off 3 times during our 2 night stay, once very late at night and twice at 4.45am. Leaving there very tired &looking forward to a good nights sleep at home. Not the relaxing break I thought I would get.

The building itself is a beautiful building, however there was a slope in the floor of our bedroom we had frosted glass windows and the furniture is all very tired and needs a complete overhall. The cobwebs between the wardrobe and wall were unacceptable and the bathroom was clean but very old.

Good location but needs modernisation

My allocated room was in the annex reached by some very, very steep stairs. The room was clean but stark, no pictures on the wall. The bath and sink were very old, chipped and cracked. There was a door on the corridor outside with a squeaky hinge that was noisy for a prolonged period overnight. There was limited choice on the breakfast buffet and it wasn't refreshed promptly. The drinks dispenser produced truly awful (instant) coffee. The hotel is in a good location but I believe is in need of a thorough update.
