We had an upgraded room, new paint, carpeting, and bed covers. Room was large (2 king beds), location was good for going to Joshua Tree National Park.

They advertise a pool area, but the gate was locked, apparently for the winter; can’t use the tables and chairs to relax outside. Also, we paid in advance for a 5-day stay, and the manager hounded us every morning to leave my room by 11 so that the maid could clean, even when there was nothing to clean. It made no sense and it was super inconvenient.

The good thing about this motel was the location, very close to the national park, just off the main road, grocery stores within 10 minute drive. Unfortunately the motel room did not meet our expectations. It had been cleaned but almost everything was very OLD. There was a very bad dusty musty smell in the room that even came home with us on some of our clothes. The bedspreads were at least 35 years old, with cigarette burns on them. The mattress covers and beds were covered in tape to try to keep them together. I think everything but maybe the toilet & bath tub needs to be replaced. There’s no counter space in the bathroom. They suggested we have house keeping come during our stay but we knew that wasn’t going to fix the old and stinky aspects. Sprayed a bunch of febreeze but I think the carpet and paint need to be redone or something because that smell was not going away. The AC window unit was loud, somewhat broken and covered in tape but thankfully it functioned.

The front manager was high and didnt sleep or change clothes for3 days. "Forgot we paid for our room" when we were extending our stay, so he tried to get us to pay for the room again for 3 nights. Then when we proved we paid, he had already taken the money for the new stay but demanded we leave because "we confused and embarrassed him".

The room was very clean and worth the charged rate. I was arriving late and I understand that this small business is managed by the owner but found it cumbersome having to call multiple times to confirm my arrival time. Perhaps just send a message pettiest know that if the office is not open to call a number to get staff for late check ins? It would have allowed me to enjoy my vacation day more
