Our family had a great time in Duck for an October Fall Break. We enjoyed time both at the beach and in downtown village.
The house is perfectly located on a quiet street with a few minutes walk to the beach. The access to the beach is on the same street as the house so very easy. Morning and evening strolls on the beach were quiet and relaxing.
A nice touch was the bicycles included at the house when we wanted to go into Duck's downtown on the sound side. The bike ride is less than 15 minutes and the downtown area is very bike friendly.
The house had plenty of room for the six of us (two adults, four older kids). The kitchen has a great set-up for cooking and there are plenty of utensils. We used both the stove and the outdoor charcoal grill for meals. TV set up was easy to add our Netflix and Amazon accounts when the kids wanted to watch something.
My favorite feature of the house was all the decks for maximum outdoor relaxing. You can see both the sound and the ocean from the decks out front. What a great way to start the day with a coffee and a view of the sunrise from the beach and then back to the decks for happy hour and a sundown view from the sound side. What else do you need?
This house was perfect for our group. We had a bad week of weather but were comfy in the house , relaxing and enjoying our time together. The kitchen was very well equipped for cooking together all week too!
This was a perfect vacation! We enjoyed the house, pool, hot tub, and beach! Only thing was the house wasnât cleaned. We cleaned and then began vacay time!
We really loved the layout of the house with the open kitchen and living space and plenty of counter space for food prep and hanging out as a family. House is kid friendly, we were able to block off the stairs for our 18month old to keep her in the main living area upstairs. The rooms were comfy and all had bathrooms. The downstairs mini fridge was great for pool beverages and the bathroom downstairs was easy access from the pool. We did have a little issue with the pool âshockingâ us and I worried for my littles. But none the less, the pool was very used and the shocks seemed harmless. The location to the beach was awesome and the wagon was so helpful for carrying stuff and little ones down! We really did enjoy our stay overall and would consider coming back, just wish the pool wasnât an issue.
This is our second consecutive year spending a summer week at this property, and itâs still great! In fact, the owners made some improvements since last year, so I should say itâs even greater. Communication with the host is super easy, and the house/pool/location exactly meet our needs as a couple of families with kids. We wouldnât hesitate to book this property again.
A group of moms and their children stayed at the property for spring break. The house was the perfect size and the proximity to the beach is awesome! We had great weather and enjoyed lots of nearby activities. The kids voted this vacation in their top 5!
We had a lovely long weekend at this property. Kristin checked in on how things were within 24 hours and was super responsive and accommodating to a situation we ran into (unrelated to the house) - much appreciated! Recommend this property for your next trip! Great views of sunset on the Soundside, ocean and can hear the waves, as well as watch and listen to wildlife...deer included. :) Thank you for everything!
We had an amazing stay! The house had plenty of room for our family to claim their own space. The walk to the beach was super fast and located very close to a private access location. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need for cooking full meals if you donât feel like driving out every day. The house, pool, and hot tub were clean and enough supplies were provided to get us through our shorter stay. I canât say enough good things about the house and our hostess, Kristin was available with quick responses to any questions we had. We would love to stay here again!
We go to the Outer Banks every year and everyone in the family agreed this was our favorite house we have ever stayed in! It is so convenient to the beach. The pool is a great size! There is plenty of space to spread out but also enjoy time together. We would love to rebook again for next year!
My friends and I really enjoyed our stay last year and immediately booked for this year when we got home. A few months ago, we were notified that the previous owner had sold the home but our reservation would still be honored. We were a bit concerned about the changes but Kristen kept our same rate and the house had been updated! There's new appliances and the kitchen has been upgraded. The wifi and phone service on the second and bottom floors are still spotty.
The biggest concern we had this year was that we all felt an electrical shock the first few days as we were going into the pool and the hot tub. I do not remember experiencing this at all. My friend said she may have felt a tiny one last year now thinking back on it. I immediately contacted Kristen. One of the biggest draws to this home is the proximity to the beach and also the pool/hot tub. We used the pool and hot tub everyday last year after the beach so we couldn't just let the issue go. Kristen responded quickly and said that it is normal to feel that shock and sent some links to obx rental companies that have the warning in their rental agreements. Nevertheless, she did contact the pool management company and had someone come out the next day.
The pool guy came out the next morning and said this is a problem specifically with this house, apparently there are a couple of high voltage power lines that run underground on either side of the house. It's also why the rubber matting is placed all around the pool. When it gets really hot like it has been the last couple of days and people running their AC more it creates more of a ground transfer and you get more of a shock
He said they've had Dominion come by and look and everything is properly grounded and bonded, so nothing they can do.
They've been having this problem and questions for 15 years.
We were still skeptical of using the pool and hot tub for the rest of our stay as we have young children. I'm thankful Kristen and the pool person responded ASAP. I'm just not sure if we will come back to the property due to the pool/hot tub issue, which seems to be out of everyone's control now.
We had a wonderful week in this beautiful, well-appointed, relaxing, and beach-themed, tastefully decorated house, and in the clean and refreshing pool. It was such a nice place to stay for my extended family, including my 10 and 7 year old grandchildren who suggested the house yet to be named house be called the âThe Flip-Flops Stopâ or âThe Duck Stops Here!â The walk to the clean wide beach was only 3 minutes, and is where lifeguards are on duty. We have been coming to Duck for 30 years; 118 Sprigtail is one of the nicest places to stay, and the new owners are very responsive and helpful to the only few questions we had. We plan to return here. Dr. Horn from Virginia
Perfect spot and great house. Short walk to beach, beautiful sunsets from the top porch. Middle deck was a quiet spot to relax and read in the shade with a breeze. The pool was refreshing during the hot days. Just a few minutes drive to many local restaurants. Our family loved this house!
The house is great for a large family. Everyone had their on space. However no kitchen linens and not enough washcloths.
Also a concern we had was electrical shocks around the pool & hot tub. We also found 2 fans from the house that were packed up mistakenly. Please send me a mailing address and I will return them.
We had a lovely stay at this house! The only negative was that there was an occasional tiny electric shock getting in/out of the pool, but weâve experienced that at other houses in OBX, too, and we all got used to it (even a 3yo!) - just be aware if anyone in your party uses a pacemaker, etc. Other than that, excellent! The location and beach access were perfect, the pool was a good size for our group (and saltwater, which we loved), the house was clean, kitchen equipment was nice (and new appliances!) ⊠really just great overall - would certainly stay here again.
This property is perfect for extended family vacations. It was just as described. A short walk to the beach and a short drive to activities and restaurants in Duck. It is located in a very quiet area with a path along the main road for biking/walking/jogging. Kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking. I highly recommend this property to families looking for a relaxing getaway and I hope to return in the future!
Our stay at the house was perfectly situated for our family of 9, from 1 year old up to 69 years. The house was in a great location and included all the amenities that we needed. The furniture, appliances, and home were in excellent condition. A couple of minor maintenance issues were taken care of immediately and the property manager (Kristen) was great to deal with from arrival thru our departure. We definitely will be back to the Outerbanks at Caroline Dunes.
