This may be my very favorite hotel of all time. And I only say may to allow for the fact that I may be forgetting something. I can’t imagine, forgetting this. From the moment we arrived from the train station to the moment we sadly departed, every detail was thought of and accounted for. The staff are helpful and discreet, responding to every request as though we had simply asked them the time. This is the only unobtrusive turndown service I’ve ever experienced. . From calling taxis to arranging a Kintsugi experience, to deftly navigating a request to help retrieve some items left in a Tokyo hotel room, everything was absolutely seamless. . Bed was huge and comfortable, pajamas and robes lush, toilet, separate from the shower and private, and an in-room onsen built for two. . The pool is warm and mineral-fed, the grounds are breathtaking, and walking distance to Kinkakuji and some delicious sushi. . If I were forced to make a note, it would be that the Western items on the à la carte breakfast menu were not my favorite. But the buffet was great. . I would come back to Kyoto just to stay here.

As far as the staff and property and room is concerned, I give this place a 10+++. You cannot find better service and staff in all of Japan. However, the only complaint is for Americans. The breakfast is very Japanese and very limited. Also very crowded on the weekends. If you want to use the pool, you need to make an appointment for 60 minutes and the pool is always very crowded with families and children. Also, the hotel is 30 minutes away from where everything happens in Kyoto. So you should expect to be taking taxis everywhere. Other than that, the property staff and service is beyond expectations.

The room itself was wonderful- so comfortable and clean and beautiful and relaxing. The spa was also amazing too. Unfortunately, the breakfast was quite terrible- they hardly had any options for buffet and it felt like they were cheating us on such minimal food. The quality was also just mediocre for such a fancy hotel.

Highly recommended. The staff was attentive to every small detail and was super helpful with suggestions for my trip and reservations for amazing dining in the area. This is absolutely one of the best places That my wife and I have experienced in the worldwide travel. The staff is super friendly, hotel is very charming and Zen like. The chef and dining staff went out of their way to accommodate our vegan needs. The Hot Spring pool and spa are top notch. This hotel was definitely a highlight in our two weeks trip to Japan!

An incredibly luxurious hotel that embodies everything amazing about Kyoto. We had amazing food, the design of the resort and the rooms was amazing and overall the nature was beautiful. We also had such a peaceful experience. The rooms were so spacious as well, I could've stayed there all day. The spa was also top notch and should not be missed. Couldn't recommend and say enough good things about our stay at Roku.

this property is a bit far from town and main attractions but worth every penny staying there. the staff is great, very professional and amicable making our stay very pleasant and easy. it gives peace and quiet in a perfect environment mixing nature with modern facilities. this is one of the greatest hotels we stayed in.
