My recent one-night stay at the Gateway Hotel Santa Monica, necessitated by a move, had some pros and cons. While I found the room itself to be clean and the bed comfortable, there were a couple of areas that could be improved. Despite requesting a quiet room at check-in and being assured I was placed in one, my room faced the main street. Unfortunately, this resulted in significant traffic noise throughout the night, particularly in the early morning hours, which impacted my sleep. Additionally, I found the breakfast offering to be quite limited and would suggest it be marketed more as a light snack selection rather than a full breakfast. Overall, while the room cleanliness and comfort were appreciated, the noise issue and breakfast offering were disappointing, especially considering current hotel prices.

The hotel had a reasonable price and is near the Getty which is why we stayed there. It was overall a good enough experience and fits in the Average category. Street traffic was loud and there were a lot of sirens. The breakfast was below average. I found the underground parking very convenient.

Clean comfortable rooms, some room for improvement

The Gateway hotel has a great location, and is the most reasonably priced hotel in the area. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. However, the bathroom had a persistent odor of mold, which was unfortunate. On the nights I stayed there, the rooms were very noisy at night. I could hear multiple parties/conversations going on late into the evening, and a very unhappy baby sharing his thoughts with all of us well into the night. Perhaps more insulation between rooms would help. And lastly, while I appreciate the hotel providing breakfast for their guests, the offerings for the meal were genuinely the saddest I have seen at any hotel or motel I have ever stayed at. A few boxed cereals, some stale granola bars, some tired fruit. There truly appeared to be no effort made at all, which was a disappointment. Now, with all of this, would I return to this hotel? Maybe, just with a better understanding of what to expect.

Good location, great restaurant right next door, decent parking and easy to get to Santa Monica and explore. The property itself is dated and we didn’t have the most friendly of check ins. We also didn’t get any of our benefits so was a little disappointing

In an city where hotel value died before the 2020 plague, Gateway offers for your $240 a nice roof deck, edible breakfast snacks with coffee, the sharp fragrance of weed throughout the halls, a comfortable room wirh windows that open to either let out or in the stench of pot depending on your preference. It's 15 minutes to the beach and within striking distance of west Hollywood restaurants. The shower pressure is good.
