We ended up checking out a couple of hours after arrival. The room was clean but needs a serious upgrade. There were a lot of dogs there and we were concerned we would not get any sleep overnight. The restaurant's buffet was empty when we went for dinner and the bar has minimal options. However, the scenery was absolutely beautiful!
Wait staff at the restaurant were very good. Reva is a sweetheart and does an excellent job.
Overall cleanliness at the lodge was good. One minor issue when we first checked in.
There does need to be more coordination between the on site staff and the company running the location. It sounded like the front staff did not have the answers for many questions from the people staying.
We love the site and have been staying there most years after spending our honeymoon there 51 years ago. We were joined this year by friends from Texas and they loved it.

Staff was very nice, room simple but clean. Beautiful setting
Peaks of Otter Lodge was very busy. But that was to be expected given it was peak leaf season. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The view of the lake was amazing. We dined in the bar. As season closing was coming up shortly, it seemed they were a little short staffed for the number of clients even in midweek. I think the weekends will be packed. The food was absolutely amazing though, so well worth any wait. It was also convenient, being right on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our stay was less than satisfactory. The room smelled old and musty. There were multiple flies in the room when we checked in . There was one hand towel on the bed and it was damp. There were only tea and decaf coffee keurig cups. We did go to the front desk and were given 2 clean, dry hand towels as well as some caffeinated keurig cups. The restaurant was understaffed. The first day we waited 10 minute before a host even came to the host stand. Then had an hour wait to be seated. The waitress at lunch was wonderful though. Although the skillet cookie and berry crisp were both out of stock. We were told they’d be back for dinner, but they were both out AGAIN. For dinner we ordered out to take back to our room as the wait was 60-90 minutes. The food was cold and although we ordered ice cream with our chocolate torte, neither of us received the ice cream. Breakfast was ok - Holly kept forgetting things (honey for tea, more hot water and coffee). This is all for a one night stay. The property was beautiful but the price was overpriced.
We arrived for check-in ontime. After waiting for at least 30 minutes we were given keys to a room that was not cleaned after the prior guests left. I went back to wait in line, about 20 minutes, to ask for a clean room. While waiting for assistance I noticed the other guests waiting for clean rooms, and they had been waiting 4 hours for their room to be cleaned. I was given new keys to a "clean" room. The door to that room was locked with a deadbolt so I could not get in. At this point the front desk clerk offered several folks refunds so I decided to get my reservation refunded. I did not get the full refund and asked the front desk clerk why. She indicated to me that her supervisor had access to the full charges and she did not have that access herself. Her supervisor left her alone to manage the front desk. She promised me she would tell her manager my phone number and email to contact me to discuss a full refund. I have waited 5 days, no contact. Very upset and frustrated with this hotel. I recommend going to the Blue Ridge Mountains but stay in a town nearby not this hotel.
The staff is friendly. Check in is smooth. The hotel's environment is very beautiful, and you can see the beautiful lake and Mountain from the room window. Room space is enough. Dinner is very good. Big parking area.
Location, location, location. This isn't a five-star hotel - think camping lodge from the 50s. They've added wifi and TVs in the past few years, but you can still escape modern life if you want to.
Room was ok. Breakfast was not. Only breakfast option was buffet. $20 for buffet with coffee. I tried the pancakes, biscuits and sausage gravey, potatos and eggs - all cold.
The dining and food service were excellent. All meals and the wait staff were wonderful and made us feel at home.
-Our room was not cleaned of pet hair on the floors before or during our stay. This concerned us since we mentioned is to the front desk after we checked in and nothing was done about the issue. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay.
Room was severely outdated. Television did not work. Food was not good, didn’t stay for breakfast. Just wanted to get out of there. I wanted to have a special evening with my 88 year old aunt, but that didn’t happen. Very disappointed
Somewhat rustic, long haul to room with stairs. Great ambience!

It's an old lodge doing the best it can with the infrastructure... Also there is absolutely no accessibility access except in the main lodge building which does have an elevator.

Beautiful area but lodge is OLD and overpriced. This is more like a camp out. I wish they could get federal funding to restore buildings. The restaurant buffet was also a disappointment
