WARNING. I would have given this property 4 stars, the beds brought it down from 5. However, I am going to have to give it a 2. I admit that I did not read all the way to the bottom, and therefor did not see “4WD is required during winter months/snowy conditions”, and did not have it brought to my attention until I was past the cancel date. I would have canceled, but as it was, my son in law and both rented 4WD vehicles. 456 extra for me, I don’t know what he paid. As it turned out we did need them to get the 200 yards to the house. There was a heavy snow storm in TN and NC 2 days prior to our arrival. A local businessman told me that kind of storm is a once in 5 year event. No attempt was made to clear the drive in the week that we were there.

Our family had a wonderful time together this past weekend. I think everyone really enjoyed their stay. We had a range of 8 months to 89 years in our group, and it was special to have everyone together in this lovely location. There were some concerns that I have already shared with the agent, but overall, it was a great experience for everyone.
The photo of the waterfall on the VRBO page seems to be a bit deceptive. The attached photo is what we saw when we arrived with only water flowing/falling from drainage pipes. We were expecting a "real" waterfall.

Wonderful, magical stay. We were surrounded by woods, wildflowers, and waterfalls and enjoyed comfy indoor and outdoor spaces. The variety of bedrooms/ beds easily accommodated our group of assorted ages and connections. Great kitchen, with plenty storage and made for cooking. The fire pit area next to the water was perfect for gathering to visit, enjoy s’mores and breathe deeply. For our group, the Waterfall Lodge was a great value and exceeded expectations!

Amazing peaceful scenic family time

We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the spacious kitchen area for having breakfast before heading out for the day and cooking meals and after dinner the family time around the campfire in the evening, During the day we visited the surrounding areas for shopping, scenic views snd festivities close by! We all had an amazing time at the cabin with the bonus of listening to the the waterfalls! Loved our stay!!!

Family Getaway

This property is in a beautiful mountain location with lots of room for a family of seven. We felt safe and were appreciative of a quick response when we had some problems in the kitchen. The children enjoyed fishing in the pond, and the large kitchen and table made meals easy to do.

Gorgeous home and comfy stay!

We came up to serve the families of WNC who were affected by the storm. This property was great in location to access centrally from Asheville to Spruce Pine. It’s a gorgeous place inside and out. We were very surprised by the spacious rooms and porch areas. We had children from 3 to 16 and they enjoyed the bunk beds, backyard area and “secret” loft. We will definitely plan another trip to this home soon! I can only imagine how amazing it will be covered in snow. Only last minute surprise was the very steep driveway and the sign for the back entrance was hard to find. With a large truck and trailer this made turning around very difficult but other than that everything was perfect! A real 10/10 stay!

Cozy and quiet

This lodge is huge! Everything about this place says wood lodge. Too many positive things to say! So in short, the things we noticed, The home is not that far off the main road, so pay attention not to drive by because it’s very hard to turn around, has two separate driveways, Home is clean. Outdoors was very quiet, you can walk up to the other pond and go fishing. Waterfall lodge is definitely on the list to go back to visit.

Amazing stay for large groups!

We had an absolute blast staying at Rachel & Sam's beautiful home in the mountains. It was the perfect location for my group of 15 friends. The house has plenty of room and beds which made sleeping arrangements easy to coordinate. The private pond and fire pit were perfect for hanging out and playing games outside. It is in a great, quiet location up in the mountains which was perfect for our group to reconnect and enjoy each other's company. We had so much fun and I would absolutely recommend Rachel & Sam's house for anyone looking for a fun, group getaway in the mountains near Asheville!

Lodge stay in Madison County NC

The property was wonderful. It was quiet except for the waterfall and secluded. We had a very nice time and there are lots of things to visit all close by. The kitchen table was great as it accommodated our growing family. There was plenty fo fun for reh kids and relaxation for the adults. I highly recommend this spacious cabin on 195 Black Bear Road.

Nice vacation home.

The waterfall cabin has so much going for it. Well situated near many great outdoor activities, private, spacious, nice linens, easy check in and good communication. The kitchen needs to be better equipped for large groups-- serve ware (platters, bowls, a salad bowl), and flatware. The waterfall was not as pictured--more of a drainage conduit. Our family enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful vacation. The Hickey Falls trail is a must!!

We loved the house! The town of Mars Hill is super cute and 20 min away. There was plenty of room for my group to be together or to have some distance. The owners were responsive when we had concerns/questions. Would stay there again!

Spacious, peaceful home in a lovely setting with plenty of room for our multi-generational group of 10. Rachel and Sam were lovely to work with, and were incredibly responsive to questions and a minor maintenance issue. Some of the furnishings are a little more worn in person, but overall we found the space to be comfortable, very clean, and a good fit for our group!

Wonderful stay despite check-in challenge!

This is an awesome property for a large group looking to get away. Very spacious and comfortable. It's a bit of a hike to Asheville but totally doable if your getaway plans don't entirely revolve around city activities. We did have a bit of a challenge checking in as we were given the wrong address and key code, but this was resolved relatively quickly. I would stay here again!

The location and property were great and we would stay there again. Just need to make sure people can get in and out due to the lock on bottom floor not working however our host answered the phone immediately and was helpful. We would stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
