The location and size of the property are perfect for a school team. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the property, and certain things didn't work properly. The bbq was listed, but was rusty and had no gas bottle. The washing machine got stuck on the rinse cycle. Plenty of fridge/freezer space but the freezers had mould. Instructions for the oven would be handy.
Have stayed here before and love the amount of space there is. 3 toilets and 3 showers meant no queues. Heat pump was on when we arrived so house was really toasty. Large TV we were able to watch sports on.
We really enjoyed the size and beauty of this old building. Its a bit of a work in progress but still very lovely. Not often you get to stay somewhere so unique. Perfect for a large family gathering. Was perfect for us tho. Kids loved it as so many places for hide and seek - its huge. Maybe not suitable if you have very young children tho as the staircase would be a worry.
This is a wonderful house for a large group - spacious, well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, great location, good parking. It retains many of the features of an older house - stained glass, beautiful lounge fireplace etc . HOWEVER, our stay was marred by 3 issues. 1) The house was freezing when we arrived (mid-winter in Masterton is cold) and the 2 large heat pumps took 12-18 hours to get the temperature to comfortable (not hot). We felt these heaters should have been on before we arrived. 2)We found only 8 towels ( there were 11 of us). In communicating with the host after our visit she stated there were 29(!!) towels in the linen cupboard. We never found this cupboard. Most Bookabach house put towels on the beds and in bathrooms.3) The door to the pantry had a lock which engaged when door was closed but no key. We rang the host who said there was no key(??) and we would need to get a locksmith. We needed access to the pantry as we has food, and an expensive multi-cooker in there. That visit by locksmith cost us $70.00. This problem needs to be rectified - either remove lock altogether or provide the key. There could have been a child trapped in there. Unfortunately we found the host unhelpful over our concerns.
We had a fantastic week in Victoria House and found the owner Rozellia so lovely to deal with. The beds are superb. We walked to the park and shops every day as they are minutes away.
Beds and rooms for everyone.
Large lounge dinning area to all sit and eat together. Adequate kitchen. Super clean. Altogether an amazing building . I will recommend to any and all to have reunions and large gatherings.
Awesome character property that allowed our team to stay together for a week, with excellent cooking, dining and bathroom facilities. Lots of space and homely so we felt very relaxed.
Fantastic place for a friends catch up weekend - we could bring some of our dogs making it so much easier.
Lots of space, comfortable and close to town
Owner was easy to contact and work with
Great place would recommend
Out of all the places we have stayed at this is easily one of our favourites.
Has a very charming entrance way, nice period features throughout the house, sooo many big sized bedrooms and is comfortable and warm.
It is slowly being done up
We finally got the dishwasher to work on the last day - prior to that it only washed with cold water that didnt clean so we ended up hand washing. There was no hot water in the kitchen so we had to boil the jug to fill the sink. We did turn on the zip for hot water but it ended up leaking everywhere.
The shower downstairs only had 2 settings "Hot" or "Scorching" but had reasonable pressure.
Beds were nice & comfortable.
There was no dryer so we ended up washing clothes and hanging them on a line in front of the heat pump overnight.
But even with these 'bad points' its still one of the best places we've stayed in. Is a brilliant place for large groups.
Size of house, number of rooms, bathrooms/toilets, beds and kitchen facilities were all perfect for us! Loved the garden and the surprise compost toilet outside.
We were a little confused as to whether the cottage was part of the accommodation or not. The cottage was unlocked, bed was made and towels were on the bed. But the note left inside said it was tenanted so we didn't use the cottage.
Location is absolutely amazing, close enough to the supermarket etc. but nice and quiet at night.
Not all the beds had electric blankets on them as indicated. Which was a little disappointing as it was cold at night but other than that, everything else was great and the accommodation exceeded our expectations.
Host is super responsive and great communication. House is reasonably priced as well.
Thank you Rozellia for letting us stay, we had an amazing time and will definitely be re booking in the future :)
What a gorgeous old place with awesome history. Rozellia had bought beautiful beds and linen for all the rooms. There were many things in the kitchen that we needed - lovely garden and barby area - so close to town! Great value for money! Brilliant comms -Thanks so much Rozellia x
We had a fantastic time at this property. Rozellia was quick to respond to questions and more than happy to provide information for us.
We had a few families with young children staying and the house was great. There is a steep staircase which you may need to be careful with if you have children that aren't confident on stairs. There was plenty of room for everyone and a great outdoor space with a grassy area and bbq area under cover. The outdoor area was private and safe for the kids to play in.
We would definately stay again and recommend the place to others.
Excellent value.
Thank you so much for letting us stay in this beautiful whare! We came over for Waka ama regionals had all our intie girls stay with us and they all LOVED it, so did we. Hoping we could book this property again next year for regionals aswel!
A superb booking for a large group, Rozellia was also very easy to contact on the Bookabach messaging function. The location was nice and central, and it was easy to walk most places in the town. Would recommend this property.
