Disappointing. Points for location (as regulars of Fitzroy we know and love its contrasts and ‘grittiness’) and a comfortable bed and good bathroom. The approach to the building had us concerned - the building looked 'tired' and there was a strong musty smell before we even got into the apartment. Inside, the mustiness was oppressive. Sadly, the listing presents this west-facing apartment as ‘light-filled’ and a place to relax in. What it doesn't say is that there are privacy drapes that filter out any light, and as the apartment faces directly onto the pavement opening the drapes exposes you to anyone outside. The bedroom window is directly over the bed and faces the bathroom - again, with the privacy blind open, you can see straight into the bedroom and bathroom from the pavement. The apartment is small - the photographs must have been taken with a wide-angled lens - and access to the bed on one side necessitated walking sideways, due to new built-in robes (most of which are unavailable for use). We had to put one suitcase in the living area due to lack of room. All up our attempt to 'go local' rather than stay in the boutique hotel we usually go to in Collingwood was a major disappointment and more expensive.
