When I read the other reviews, admittedly I was hesitant because there was definitely a concern for safety.
Having now stayed, the hotel is in prime location for venturing around New York and very easily accessible to everywhere. The concerns are because upon immediately exiting the train station (and we arrived late at night), it can feel as if you have walked straight into danger. This is an unfair representation of the area which basically, is a lot of locals simply living in an underfunded and poor community.
The local white guy at the convenience store fiddled us whereas the looming black gangster said âgood morningâ whilst walking a beloved dog.
Perception is a key component of whether you feel safe in this underprivileged area. Yes, there are safer areas which come with a hefty bill. Or there is this place where the convenience to exploring is top notch at basic prices, so long as you can forgo the noise and drama.
