Communication with the host was excellent — they were responsive both before and during our stay. The house was fairly well stocked and, if you are looking for a more remote feel, it was peaceful -- about a 10–15 minute drive to groceries and the nearest town center. It was also a beautiful drive (1 hour) to many nearby towns in Vermont and New Hampshire that we visited for hiking, fall leaves and apple picking. However, we were very disappointed by the cleanliness. This was unexpected based on prior reviews. There was a very strong dog odor throughout the home (aware it says "dog friendly" but it smelled like a stinky, wet dog mixed with a fake cinnamon smell that required us to open the windows and air out because it was so strong) and both dog and human hair were noticeable in multiple areas throughout the house, including on the dining table and in the bathrooms. We also discovered what appeared to be animal feces in most of the kitchen drawers - including where serving utensils ans cutlery were stored. Perhaps most upsetting -- during our stay, we saw several mice in the house in the kitchen and living areas. While the home has potential and the host was great to work with, it would greatly benefit from a deep cleaning and pest control before future guests. It was overall disappointing given prior positive reviews.
