Some of my family live in Hanover, Maine and my sisters and I planned to stay at this mountain retreat so we can all cook out and enjoy the beautiful views from Peaks. The house and location are absolutely magnificent. If you like to walk or cycle you can do so right within the area and soak it all in without busy roads. Our first night and day were great Beds super comfortable, living room views great, kitchen nice. Only criticism is limited kitchen supplies it’s like a bachelor ski pad where there is no thought of families who want to stay in and cook and enjoy the house and views in the summer.
Despite that we loved our first day. Family came to visit and we sat outside in the beautiful deck and marveled. We loved the property, landscaping and there were raspberry bushes! We went to visit our family that evening for dinner and when we got back that was when heaven turned to hell. Thousands and thousands of gnats were inside the house. Walls, ceilings, and furniture were black because they were covered in gnats. We had no defense. There were millions of them outside on the windows and doors. It was insane and a gave me a true understanding of how Steven King gets inspiration for a novel. We contacted the property manager and his responsiveness was immediate. He worked with us to relocate and although the location of our new place wasn’t as great the house was equally as beautiful and we contended with some gnats that got in from the outside which is to be expected, we were in the woods!
So, if you are looking for a summer place, I’m not so sure this is the one although the views are spectacular. My recommendation is definitely a winter rental when bugs are not to be found. Just remember to pack and bring cookware, cooking utensils, and spices if this is a family rental and you plan to cook in.
