The hotel was refurbishing their lift but did not make this known to me either prior to arrival or upon check-in. When I went to my room I found I had to carry very heavy luggage downstairs (and up again on departure) and did not have anyone with me to help. I was returning to the hotel the following weekend so asked for a room that didn't require me to use the stairs but was told it wasn't possible unless I paid a considerable amount of money to upgrade my room. I feel the hotel should have made it clear that the lift was not working and could have done more to try and allocate a more convenient room on my return.
